Beaten by the better side 17:54 - Dec 22 with 6781 views | Parlay | No real complaints. Some outstanding performances from Canas, Davies, Williams and Shelvey and a nice cameo from Lamah who will surely start against Chelsea instead of the severely under par Routledge. Our first half woes continue though. We didnt register a shot on target. But the last 30 mins was much better in an attacking sense. We fluked the goal but we had our chances with Pablo and Lamah forcing great saves and also should have equalised at the end but Vasquez took his eye off it. Good game of football. Just frustrating we often come out as losers.

Beaten by the better side on 18:53 - Dec 22 by Phil_S | Nope , even game where we were beaten by two strikes - both of which were helped by poor goalkeeper positioning I never had you down as the type to listen to Niall Quinn but if you watched properly and compared the stats etc there was nothing between the two teams. |
I disagree because I'm taking into account home adv.

Beaten by the better side on 07:47 - Dec 23 with 1232 views | Dr_Winston | "Deserve" is a strong word. You can't be as abject in the final third as we were and expect sympathy when you lose, but overall our performance was decent enough against an in form side. We do badly need an injection of quality out wide, and a much better backup striker than Vasquez.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

Beaten by the better side on 18:44 - Dec 22 by rockin | I absolutely never forget where we were, I respect it and thank our lucky stars we're there. But that doesn't mean I don't look to future and recognize areas of weakness. I find it frustrating how close we are to being a genuinely fantastic team, I believe we could easily be in the running for 6-8th in league |
I agree. The rotation which is necessary with the Europa League has meant players aren't getting as good run of games to play themselves into form, Routledge and Pablo being prime examples of this. Shelvey had a run of games due to Michu's injury and look how he's come on.

Thanks, I was beginning to think I was on my own... Thought he was woeful - out of position more often than not and done for pace almost every time. His "crossing" was embarrassing too. Local boy though, innit.

So you would say he had a well disciplined defensive performance last night? Didn't set himself far too high up the pitch or stray from his position a few too many times? I thought (as i've stated previously) his attacking play was good, but ash was left exposed a few too many times on the left last night. Ben wasn't helped by routs much mind! Just my opinion though. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

What did you think of him busting a gut to get over to the right hand side of our penalty box to make a cracking tackle, one which one of our other defenders should have made but didnt? He didnt have his best of games but was still above average.

I just thought positionally he wasn't right last night, with mirallas and coleman attacking with so much gravitas, along with little to no help from routs he should have set out a bit more defensive minded than he did to cope with them better. His high standard of performance has made my expectations too high, expect him to be flawless most games because 9/10 times he will be I suppose! Wonderful talent but still young and learning.

Indeed, people are judging him on his normally very high performances. He done alright, wasn't poor but didnt rip any trees up either, and as you rightly pointed out, look at the two players he had to deal with, with very little help.

Beaten by the better side on 12:22 - Dec 23 with 1036 views | monmouth | I thought Ben was a bit of a curates egg yesterday (as were quite a few). That tackle in the first half plus a couple of excellent headed touches and last gasp interceptions saved our bacon. In the second half two very good players tageted him relentlessly and it showed that he still has a lot to learn. Surely that is no surprise? He is still on target to become a cracking player, so I'm not sure why all the polarised hyperbole to be honest. Game could have gone either way in my view, although I thought they just looked that bit stronger and more composed. they started well and then we grew into the game and took control. At half time I was quite optimistic. Then they had that excellent 15 minutes or so when they had us by the throat and we were clinging on and they scored. Then we came back at them (very encouraging indeed given how we'd been coshed) and, after we scored it really was even and could have gone either way until the end. We need more threat up front (not necessarily a new front man...runs from midfield might be more important) and different approaches around the 18 yard box.....maybe just shoot now and again, but we were undone again by two goals that were out of the ordinary...whatever Tremmel's position. Good game, and it was nice not to see yet another bus parking display, but I'm disappointed for us not to have the point that, for all our attacking shortcomings, I thought we'd worked hard to earn.

I think it doesn't matter who you're playing that should matter and I believe they bossed it in most areas of the pitch. It's no disgrace however as they have better personnel, my whole point is that against teams we should be expected to beat we're lacking a real cutting edge and I think it's very much able to be rectified. This one up top with Bony simply doesn't work, there's no cohesion in our play.

No I'm saying there's teams we should be expected to beat. I would expect us to get a result against Everton yes. Under Roberto they have gone up a couple of notches however and it is possible they could get top 4 on how they're playing. But our performance has glaring weaknesses which for me is the reason we can't string results together.

You're confusing me even more. Under MOyes we got 1 point from 12 against them. They (according to you) have gone up a couple of notches under Roberto) and now you expect to get a result against them. And that is when your realism for me disappeared

Yes, we've always struggled against them I know that. I still would back us to get a point yes, just because our record is bad doesn't mean much in my eyes. Home adv - I'd expect us to get a point at least. But you're twisting this as usual, I'm talking more fundamentally than bloody Everton. I'm commenting on our disjointed game at present.

I haven't called him embarrassing.. I believe the word 'embarrassing' was used to describe his crossing by someone else, which I actually stated was good (attacking play). I did use woeful but after watching the game again agree that it was too strong of a word to have thrown out there. He wasn't 'outstanding' though as op stated. Usually is mind and undoubtedly a cracking talent no doubt.

I'm not twisting this at all - the topic is surely about Everton given it was started by us being beaten by the better side. Which they werent but they were according to you but you expected us to get something despite them being better? You make some really good points on this board but on this one you have lost me so I'm out
