The White City was another stadium in London with a large capacity (between 60-80k capacity) It was mainly used for Athletics, Greyhound and Speedway and QPR had a short spell playing there. I went there twice, once for a AAA athletics meeting and again in 1966 to watch France & Uruguay in the World Cup.

I remember walking past the White City Stadium the first time I went to QPR's ground in 1979, it was in the same road about 200 yards away.

My first ever football game was QPR v West Ham in the early 80’s. I walked past the white city stadium with my dad wondering why we haven’t gone in there, as you say, it was very close by.

Anyone know what the capacity/record crowd was at Soton Speedway Stadium?
At its peak, it had a capacity of 20,000. I've been to quite a few of the old speedway stadiums, including Brandon Stadium, Dudley Wood, Long Eaton and Hackey Wick but the Banister Court Stadium was just a bit before my time. Relative to the area covered, capacities at speedway stadiums were big because they were nearly all terracing.
