It's odd that we can't afford to pay him the wages Chelsea will but can afford to pay this level of wages to kids we buy from other academies.

I would rather we persevere with our own talent than spunk the money on players like Small who has been shipped of to a L1 club with little chance now of ever making it as a first team player for us.

Nothing wrong with opting for the Chelsea academy which has proven to be excellent, with many avenues for their youngsters to make it into the big time. It isn’t as if he’s been with us from the beginning, so no cultural ties to the club. This is how it goes these days, sadly.

This is what I was pointing out, things have changed drastically with academies over the past few years, kids are promised the earth and given high salaries at 16, gone are the days when they have a work ethic ingrained in them.

Tyler Dibling & his parents are effectively on a game show such as Bullseye, where Jim Bowen is asking them whether they want to gamble all their money on the hope they hit 101 with 6 darts or they walk away with the cash as millionaires whatever happens at 21

He is 17 years old. It’s a bit soon to write him off isn’t it?
