A hard fought but good outcome at Middlesbrough and with Tuesday in mind, maybe I’m being a bit presumptuous, but should we consider, are we actually ready for the Premier League.
I’m not talking about the players, manager, back room staff or even the fans, but the club…as a whole.
The Directors would obviously say we are but that viewpoint is probably more due to financial issues than anything more.
The manager and staff would say we’re ready, but would probably simply want to test themselves at the highest level.
The players are always optimistic and obviously looking for the resulting pay rise, but we the fans, know there are some gaps in the squad which even a mediocre premier team would ruthlessly exploit.
This current squad was built to get us out of the championship, perhaps an extra year in the second tier would better equip us to not only get promoted, but to actually stay and compete in the top division.
Think with your head rather than your heart, do we want to go through another year of under achieving, losing the vast majority of our games and being humiliated before our piers, or accept another year in the Championship, stop the manager roulette, win the league and build a squad fit to compete at the top level.
Defeatist I maybe, but in a years time where would you rather the club and team be. |  |

We've already shown against 25% of next season's Premier League - Fulham, Arsenal, Man. City, Coventry and Ipswich - that we'll be good enough.
The team that went up under Russell Martin, not only finished 9 points off the automatic promotion places but also lost 0-3 to Liverpool in the FA Cup, 0-1 and 2-3 to Ipswich and 1-4 and 0-5 to Leicester. They were clearly nowhere near good enough.

You think we'll be in better shape for the PL after another year in the championship where our squad will degrade along with our finances?? Right ok.
Being serious, just get up. Doesn't matter how. The EFL is full of previously big clubs that are becalmed and drifting aimlessly. No thanks. |  | | |
