I would imagine that what will happen is that Saints will admit the employee - if indeed it is who the media is suggesting it is - was working for them, they will admit the charge but say that he 100% exceeded his brief, and in no way was sanctioned to do what he did. They will accept the punishment which you would expect to be a substantial fine. And move on.
I cannot believe it will result in a points deduction because this cannot be anything like as bad as the club going into administration or running foul of the transfer rules which are the usual reasons for one. | | | |

That person could be Eckert himself. He is an analyst. Clearly, I and I am sure virtually all Saints fans would hate to lose him as our manager.
Whoever arranged it and if the club sanctioned it in any form then it was crass stupidity and it has smeared the name of our club and cast a huge cloud over what was otherwise ending as a good season where we had until now rebuilt our reputation and our football. This has given food and drink to the Saints haters and pundits and commentators for whatever reason can't stand seeing Saints doing well. Until now we held some moral high ground of being a club that against the odds can bounce back and mix with the best occasionally. This has pulled the rug of that reputation out from under of us. The thing is, alot of noise is being made and there are worse things that other clubs are allowing on and off the pitch which do not get dealt with or take years for action, but we are the type of club that the authorities like to and feel able to throw the book at because most will not care what happens to little old Southampton because we are a easy target. Hit the nail on the head Pat and that is what happened yesterday with our supporters, I swear I could hear your voice in the crowd.
It wasn't our finest hour, but at the end of the day it was not as much as some would have you believe, so we saw a few things at their training ground, no one got hurt or killed.
I watched drone footage of one of our training sessions earlier in the week put up by a Saints fan, this was more about showing what Staplewood looks like, but I am sure that this sort of thing goes on all over the place for more nefarious reasons
I am sad it happened but if it happened against us, which I am sure it has, just no one has got caught, then I would not be making a mountain out of a molehill

I agree with what David says here. Everything suggests he's our employee and was spying, but the club will claim it was not under our instructions - and that might even be true. That should mean we escape with a heavy fine.
But there is a worry that this is the first case to be heard under these new rules and someone in the EFL will say "why did we introduce these rules if we're not going to use them".
Also I want the club to distance themselves from this bloke as much as possible, even if that means sacking him for gross misconduct. If they do that and he doesn't claim unfair dismissal then that shows he was probably acting alone. I would also like to know if he was at work that day or if it was a day off. If he was at work that day and the club don't sack him, then there are bigger questions to answer.
But none of this counts for much if we don't beat Boro, so, let's get to Wembley first. [Post edited 10 May 10:03]

This is my concern too, whilst other, larger profile clubs regularly break rules and the authorities look the other way, we're a perfect case to make an example of. They did the same with QPR
