2019/20 Season Review _ The Goalkeepers on 10:27 - Jul 28 with 616 viewsgreen

I seem to recall Gunn making a number of mistakes at the start of the season prior to Leicester, Bournemouth, Chelsea and Tottenham come to mind and pretty sure he had one of the lowest save ratios in the league.

Gunn is much better with his feet than McCarthy but not as good a shot stopper. As you say he’s still young enough to improve and needs to build up his confidence which is much harder for a keeper to do than an outfield player because you can’t bring them on for 10 minutes.

In an ideal world I’d sell Forster for a decent fee, loan Gunn, buy a new number 1 and have McCarthy as back up but obviously not going to happen.

We've been fortunate in the past to have some world class (Shilton & Niemi) and International class (Flowers) and some reasonable ones too (Forster in his prime, Maik Taylor) some reasonable /average (Davies, Martin) but some shitters (Grobbellaar).

As someone has said, if we had a world class keeper he'd be poached and the best we can hope for is a good international. I'd say at the moment we have at least two reasonable keepers with one with potential. That said, if we want a new 'keeper I'd go for Ben Foster at Watford. Ok, he's been relegated twice but whenever I've seen him play over the years he's been good.

Foster is 37 so a bit old, personally I would be looking at Jack Butland at Stoke

I didn’t realise he was that old. Failing him then, yes Butland is a good shout.
