That’s a fair old hall of shame, sir.

I shudder at the mention of Davenport’s name.

I remember watching what must have been his debut for Norwich against us at Carrow Rd.

He hit some daisy cutter from out wide which managed to creep in and the next day in the press he's the saviour of England's national team.

I wonder how that went?

Ah, Phil Boyer. What a player he was. And the great Ron Davies, picked up for around 60k. Best centre forward I have ever seen.

Something we can agree on , Phil Boyer was my hero as a kid. One time at the Dell whilst getting autographs he offered to take me and my mate into the changing rooms to get our programs signed but alas Big Lawrie said no so he took the programs himself and got the team to sign them. Was not old enough to see Big Ron play in the flesh alas.

Trust no one in a circus.

Phil Boyer was a class finisher. He often gets missed out when talking about some of our classic players, but he was up there with the best. Big Ron was signed soon after I started supporting the Saints and I was fortunate to see him play several times. For me he was the best header of the ball ever (too young to have seen Nat Lofthouse). His four goals at Old Trafford will never be forgotten.

I believe he finished top scorer in Div 1 in his final season with us. What price a striker with that record today?

He was top scorer three seasons running. One joint top scorer with George Best. He would put away 30 goals plus a season.

If you mean top scorer three times running in the top flight I’m afraid you’re wrong. He was top scorer in Div 1 once in 1979-80 with 23 goals. The preceding season was Frank Worthington at Bolton with 24 and the season after Boyer it was Peter Withe at Villa with 20.

I do like a bit of accuracy.
