As for the players 22:20 - Dec 31 with 1411 viewsSouthamptonfan

NJ showed them videos of Fulham's corners 10 times in training. "We showed them the exact same set-play ten times," said the Welshman. "It's not the first time Fulham have done that. It's exactly the same positionally."

They were warned to mark the man at the back post. Surely it can't be that difficult with 2 minutes remaining for someone, anyone to just mark a player completely unmarked, to get the point. Does the manager really have to tell them that? Why can't they just do it???

Ralph despaired with their mistakes in defence, so did Hughes, as is Nathan Jones. Forget tactics, just mark up and clear the ball into row z. Surely it can't be that difficult.

How many times have things you've watched on TV passed over your head? He should have practised defending them in training if he was that concerned, perhaps instead of the two weeks' holiday he sent them on when he arrived here. Can you imagine Pep Guardiola or even Ralph saying, "I showed them it 10 times on TV?"

It just sounds like the latest in a series of 'blame the players' excuses for his own omissions.

I'm not saying we have the greatest set of players - some of them only play their best about 1 game in 10 - but publicly criticising them isn't going to make them play any better.

This is a recurring theme though isn't it. Just mark your man. I don't understand why that's so difficult.

Well it’s not like it’s just us that do it, as if everyone marked their players then the only set pieces that would be scored are the last two that Prowse has scored from. As it’s difficult to mark everyone as if your up against a decent opponent they won’t be static and will be moving all over the place and crossing paths with their teammates to make it confusing for the defenders, as well as the fact that some players may have natural advantages by being a bit taller or being able to jump higher than their opponents etc…

As look I’m not saying that we should’ve conceded from those cornered and that it’s not the players faults etc, but it’s certainly not as easy or blatant as your making it out to be

To be fair, at Premier League level, some of the men they are trying to mark are quite slippery customers. A split second and they're gone and that's if they don't just muscle you out of the way in the first place.

One thing that concerns me about our current squad is that they are very weak headers. Most of them don't even bother to jump.

And in the Brighton game, they let their player shoot from 30 yards without any tackle whatsoever, Bazunu let one in under his arms and Perraud scored an own goal. Today we score another own goal and again leave a player unmarked. That's why we always lose. Are we saying someone couldn't have jumped in front of that Brighton shot, blocked it or put a tackle in?

Are we really saying we need the manager to say "Remember to tackle if a player is shooting on the outside of the box. Don't just let him shoot and stand there watching him". Don't the players know that then???

It's the continuous terrible goals we concede, game after game after game.

Basics.

So much of our undoing.

Poll: Would you take going down to League 1 if it meant new owners coming in?
