| Credit where Credit due McCarthy played well yesterday. 09:54 - Aug 25 with 1572 views | saintmark1976 | He may not be able to play Martin’s tippy tappy nonsense and gets a lot of stick when asked to do so but he made some decent saves against Forest. Perhaps it may be a good idea for Sports Republic to change our tippy tappy possession based style, keep McCarthy and instead of spending money on a replacement keeper spend it on a proper Centre Forward ? | |

I think we need two strikers. But then if the manager is going to pick a 5-5-0 formation in a home game against a potential relegation rival (echoes of Nathan Jones two seasons ago.....) then you have to wonder what is the point of signing a striker......

£7 million sounds about right, although we might have got him for even less because Feyenoord clearly wanted to get rid of him before his catalogue of injuries terminated his career. Sometimes gambling on players whose injury record makes them look more like the walking dead than an active sportsperson, does pay off. Danny Ings was one example. Let's hope Bijlow is another. If not, we're going to be seeing a lot more of McCarthy. [Post edited 25 Aug 2024 10:17]

I listened to Martins interview after the match. He acknowledged we need help out top, be a winger or forward! We need a Wood type player imho ! Someone who can put it about. Why is Diaz not through the middle ? Armstrong and Diaz were completely isolated yesterday

I think Dibling could do a job at centre forward and would like to see him tried out in that position at Cardiff, but there was a rumour flying around at St Mary's yesterday that Ross Stewart is going to be playing on Wednesday. Maybe someone started it as a joke, but I heard it from several people. [Post edited 25 Aug 2024 10:50]

Agree on Dibling. Not sure Mcarthy made any saves that he wouldn’t have been expected to make and the first half he scared the sh!t out of me and everyone around with his passing

Admittedly, we do need more attacking options, but at least put Diaz up there, in the meantime. Doing nothing and playing on the flanks with no service was crazy. McCarthy did ok. I am not sure he would have so many plaudits today if he had got punished when he gave the ball away again trying to play out from back on around 16 mins. [Post edited 25 Aug 2024 10:55]

Martin sau last week that Stewart and Lallana would play against Cardiff.

The new Dutch keeper Justin Bijlow is very 'fragile' having missed 704 days through injury over the past six years. At least it's only an initial loan with an option to buy.

I can understand if Stewart is given a run out, perhaps in one last throw of the dice to see if he can get through ninety minutes without any further reaction to his long list of injuries. Why Lallana though ? What exactly is the point of him ? He’s an injury prone aged has been, who if he does feature will just block the progress of our ever increasing number of young midfielders. It’s beyond me why he was ever brought back to a club he clearly despited when he left us.

Dibling would work best as a number 10 give a few run a la Grealish Then play AA and Diaz in front of him
