I made a comment to my son on Saturday that, although Peretz is very able to play it out from the back and he seems to link up well with his defenders, he also doesn't p!ss about and is not averse to a good hoof up the pitch when necessary.
As we know to our cost under Martin, when you give the ball away in that area the chances of conceding a goal are pretty high.
So even if you take the view that tactically it's better to play out from the back, it's madness to try to do it all the time. And not only it is high risk for at best marginal tactical advantage, it also makes the game more predictable for the opposition.
The one great thing about Eckert (as others on here have noted) is that he is flexible and pragmatic. He sets up the team to win dependent on who we are playing, and it's clear that he has left Peretz to be his own judge of when he needs to go short or long. |  |
