Lewis Dobbin vs Ross Stewart 11:19 - Oct 26 with 912 viewsPJK1972

Great news that Lewis Dobbin is finally off the mark for Saints. He looked great pre-season, but really has only shown in short spurts what he is capable of.

He replaced Ross Stewart (at least as far as shirt numbers go). I know they are not the same type of forward by any means. I think Ross is a level above, but those injuries really held him back. We barely had 1 decent season out of Ross in all the time he was here. Those injuries continue to plague him. Only 2 sub appearances for the Swans so far and no goals, so at the moment it looks like we have traded up :)

If there was ever an advert for a pay as you play contract Ross Stewart is that. I think Saints were right to stand firm on what they offered him. We'd really given him so much support as it was and I still feel a little bit bitter that him and his agent manufactured a loophole in the contract expiry that got him out of the club. I'm sure if he wanted to stay he could have.

Back to Dobbin and I hope he kicks on from here. I see him more as running in behind and a bit of a poacher. I don't think he's a winger. Good luck to him for the rest of the season!.He's a good option when we want to play a slightly different way. Larin will always be first choice for me though.

Some good points well made, Dobbin scored regularly in the Championship last season and gives us different options.

I think Mubama is not rated by Tonda, I would not be surprised for him to return to City in January and we get in a replacement on loan

Managers will have their favourites. Not sure there is a disconnect between the people signing players (Spores team) and Tonda, who actually picks the team?

There's no way that Dobbin is a trade up on Stewart (who has been available for most of Swansea's games). I'm glad he played well on Saturday but that game suited him perfectly. He will struggle in other games.

Dobbin needs space to play in, which he got on Saturday because WHU attacked us. When we play teams who want to defend more that space will disappear. Then the only space will be in the air, where Dobbin isn't much use.

We might see that against QPR. They're in good form but even so will probably sit back. If Larin isn't fit we'll have a problem. You can see that Dobbin can play but he doesn't have the physicality to play as a centre forward. He needs someone to play off so he can play as a second striker. Hopefully we'll have enough regardless, but Saturday may be the type of game where we miss what Stewart can do and Dobbin can't.

Ross Steward could have played in 12 League games for Swansea, he has been unfit an not in the squad for 8 of them.

He had been an unused sub in another 2 and came off the bench just twice the first for 9 mins and the second for 25.

I agree we miss Stewart and that Mubama is not the answer, but if we had kept Stewart, he would not have been much use to us it would seem, although in fairness I think his agents brought it on him by trying to hold out for the best deal money wise instead of the best club playing wise, meaning he had no pre season and Swansea have not managed his injury as we did.

We need to get through to January and then make two key signings in the areas we need

Stewart was fit before they were putting him in the squad. He hasn't been injured, just unused. They don't need him with Idah and Vipotnik. If he'd been with us, he'd have had a preseason as you say and been available from the beginning. No one knows if he'd have been injured since, but we know for sure that Larin has been.

It seems it isn't going to happen but I would like to see Mubama given more of a chance. There have been glimpses of him doing all the things we need to do but he's not going to learn unless he plays real games.
