No Nearer - No Farther
at 10:17:02

For once I agree with you Nick ;-). Reading now come to us on level points and they'd probably take a draw. If they had lost last night, then the need for points on Friday would have been greater. In terms of us getting promoted, last night's result wasn't that bad, if anything it was better than Reading losing in my opinion. I'm not bothered about the title until promotion is sealed.

Why No Sharp ?
at 10:34:40

Nick did you not read my post. I have already answered that. We paid for him to add competition to the side, which he has done.

"Im wondering why we would pay a substancial fee for a player, possibly well inside the top ten of transfer fees paid and obviously alongside that he is probably one of if not the top earner in the club, yet we dont seem to be using him much, even when the situation allows it, ie winning games easily, surely that is time to let him get on get a feel for the team and the way it plays and to get confidence in front of goal, for when we do need him".....

He has featured in 7 games already. He has been given the chance, which he has not taken yet. Maybe another chance will come tomorrow. No point playing someone, just because we paid a big fee for him (whether it be a sub or as a start), which is what you seem to be advocating.

As I said before. It's a non-story.

Why No Sharp ?
at 16:09:30

What is the article asking then!? If you're asking why isn't he being used.... then it's been answered. We're winning and playing well. At the moment there is no need for Sharp in the starting XI. He is coming off the bench occasionally, he helped win the first pen at Millwall.

If you are asking why did we sign him in the first place? The n clearly it was to add competition to a squad that looked pretty thin. He has done that. Other players are clearly upping their game, with Lee in particular looking very good, and also Guly showing signs of improvement.

A total non-article if you ask me. There is no problem, no issue, no talking point re: Sharp.

Get It Right Get It Tight !

Although I agree that the defence is an issue, some of this article smacks of someone who doesn't really know the league we are playing in. I analyse the Championship for my job (I write previews/reviews for a betting site).

Leicester are rightly tipped as one of the favourites for this division purely because of the quality in their squad, and Forest have plenty of attacking talent to worry most sides in this division (The were able to drop McGugan one of the best attacking midfielders in this league). Forest caused Leicester's back four problems, and also troubled West Ham, where they should have scored more than the one they got. Playing them after the two week break was always going to be tough, as their new players and manager will have bedded in a little more.

Millwall and Leeds (Both were near the play-offs last season) are not going to be struggling at the wrong end of the table, yet we picked up wins against them, and while I think Ipswich are overrated, they too shouldn't have any troubles staying up.

The point I'm making is that although we don't look secure at the back, we are bound to be troubled a little more by sides in this division. Just because we have not played any of the top 6, doesn't mean we have had an 'easy' start. Infact, if you look at it logically the teams we have played are bound to be lower.....because we have picked up a win against them.

With Burnley (Wallace, Treacy, Austin, Jay Rod), Cardiff (Earnshaw, Miller, Whittingham) and Brum (Burke, King, Beausejour, Wood) coming up, the defence is probably going to be opened up again in the next few weeks against decent opposition.

Personally I don't think it's massive problem. In my opinion Cork needs to return to CM (He offers better protection than Morgan who goes missing far too often), and Richardson (When fit)/Butterfield should play at RB. For his set pieces alone I would keep Fox in the side, although his positional sense needs working on. I would persist with Hooiveld and Fonte. I don't think the new lad had that bad a game to be honest.

Saints At Bournemouth The Verdict
at 13:33:17

Yeah course, I wasn't having a go as such, although it does annoy me a little, the constant stick Lambert has got this season. If he picks up an injury, I think most will realise when he is not there, just how much he contributes to the team.

The other thing I would say, is that we are a League One side essentially, aiming to be higher of course. We took on a team, that for large parts of this season, have been in the top two (Above us) and pushing for automatic promotion. We have to expect that they are going to cause us to have a few nervy moments.

That's why, with that in mind, I though we did well at the back. Only maybe Hudd, Posh and Brightion away could be tougher fixtures in this league than that game yesterday. To limit Bournemouth to a penalty claim, and an effort off the bar, besides their early goal, is pretty decent.

That's just my opinion of course, maybe I'm a little too positive at times.

Saints At Bournemouth The Verdict
at 13:13:56

What a strange report

1) Lets look at the facts. Besides the goals we scored, we had more shots on target and more off target, and more possession.

2) Yes we got the rub of the green on one decision (Haven't seen the replay) but the penalty would still have to be scored of course, which is not guaranteed. Other than one effort that hit the cross bar, Bournemouth created nothing. Jaidi was superb at the back, won every single header. How on earth you can say we were defensively awful is beyond me. Bournemouth have one of the best home records in the league, and score plenty of goals. We restricted them to one fortunate goal (a ricochet of one of our own players)and an effort from distance that hit the bar. Sometimes, in local derbies like this, the best way to defend, is to just clear the lines.

3) After the break we were good. We controlled the game for large parts in the second half, after admittedly been second best in the first period. Lallana and Hammond were superb. The former especially, the ball seems to stick to his feet at times, and is way too good for this division. Even the Bournemouth fans said that he was class.

4) I also disagree with a lot of the people slagging off Rickie. He was never going to match his performances from last season in terms of goals, but he is nudging 20 again this season, and is so unselfish in what he does on the field.

Look at the opta stats. He covers almost more ground than anyone else in our side. Only Hammond and Chaplow better him. He is used as a battering ram constantly. Calling him abysmal after he set up the first goal chasing a lost cause and delivered an inch perfect cross. He kept the centre halves honest throughout, and then struck a stunning free kick.... What more do you want from the bloke, a hat-trick every week!?
