As I work in Stratford I thought I would have a stroll at lunchtime and can confirm it took me 6 and half minutes to get from Pudding Mill Lane (DLR) station to the away entrance.
You can get the DLR from Stratford to Pudding Mill Lane - 1 stop, or from Lewisham / Canary Wharf coming in the other direction.
Please note that there are two DLR platforms at Stratford - the other one goes to Woolwich via Canning Town and is not the one you want.
You can, its expensive and can expect long delays of up to two hours to get out, due to road closures. There are signs in the car parks on match days warning patrons of the expected delays in leaving
Oh they have ponced up the town centre, but the people who frequent it are a different breed. Crack den / pissed up down and outs, Somali gangs, it is quite the place to visit
Re question 1: There are only a few bars in Westfield, they are all shit and overpriced. Will be full of West Ham. Usually queues to get in them. Avoid like the plague.
There are a couple of pubs in old Stratford, but again would avoid like the plague. Drink in Hackney Wick or Leyton and then travel in would be my advice.
It will definitely be quicker to go back to Leyton than try and use Stratford. Queues of up to an hour to get back into Stratford station have been known in the past
You can park in Westfield, but it is expensive and you can expect to wait two hours to get out the car park. They actually have signs up to warn of the delays.
West Ham are playing Forest Tuesday night which feels like a 6 pointer fixture. I think they are then playing Spuds the week after the cup game, so I think they will rest a few for that.
Rumours that Nuno could get the sack if things do not go well on Tuesday, so that might impact their team for Sunday.
Lots of hope for a 3rd round FA Cup win, but realistically normal service will resume and we lose. Will be a good day out anyway. Early start in West India Quay Weatherspoons then short trip on DLR to Pudding Mill Lane.
They close gates in Westfield so people cannot access the Olympic Park near The Cow pub and send away fans the long way round. I work in Stratford and there is nowhere decent to drink. If you do travel into Stratford then I suggest jumping on the DLR heading to Lewisham and getting off at Pudding Mill Lane (Near Abba Voyage) as easiest way to get to away seating
Expect an hour wait to get back into Stratford after the game. Will be like the old days of trying to get into Upton Park Tube station
Sadly the Clarendon Hotel is to close in the not too distant future and are to be converted into old people residence properties. I am sure they will cost a bomb
Chant of Did you come in a taxi? to teams who brought a small number of fans to HQ.
Remember a night game versus Port Vale where they brought so few fans that the whole away end was closed and they plonked those Vale fans that did travel in Ellerslie Road.
A lot of my Charlton mates had known Headphone Norman since they were little and he was an icon down at Charlton. Lots of chaps in tears after witnessing his passing in the Covered End on Saturday.
RIP Norm
All clubs have these characters and they are the essence of the clubs they support.
Got no idea how to post links to videos, but thought I would draw your attention to Ren. Welsh bloke now living in Brighton, still busking on streets, but doing lots online. Getting a big following.
{edit} as predicted that did not work, so here is link to his wiki page:
Super talented musician - Rap artist, but does loads of other stuff and is also in a band called 'The Big Push' I believe.
He has a great back story - definitely had a tough life with illness, but has channelled that into his music and as an independent has had some chart success.
Blackpool / Carlisle away - bloody cold, but good trip. Chance to give Sparky some abuse and get revenge for one of our previous lower division FA Cup capitulations
Old Dartfordains Rugby Club. Know it well. Club is in Bourne Road, just outside Old Bexley Village, which is worth a stroll around as it has a few good pubs including a 15th century pub called the Kings Head.
Just over the road from Old Dartfordians is a Holiday Inn and bar called the Black Prince in case you would rather stay over the night, rather than use the spill proof urine bottle on the way home.
I had a hip replacement this year - osteoarthritis. Got it in my knees also. Too much Football, Cricket and Athletics when i was younger. Sport is good for you they say!
Had the camera up the japs eye three times in the last year, bladder issues. Getting old is cr*p.
However, still think I am 21 and go out on some ridiculous binge sessions, only to suffer with horrific hangovers for 48 hours afterwards and the sound of the wife banging on 'when will you learn' ringing in my ears
I just find myself becoming less tolerant with ignorant people. Feet on seats on buses and trains, vaping on public transport, not paying for tubes / trains. People dropping litter, fly tipping . The list of things that rile me is increasing.
I am sure I will have a Michael Douglas 'Falling Down' episode one day and go on a rampage
