There's a post been made today that suggests fans are looking for a "moon on a stick" which - since posted in isolation and following very little input during the flow of fixtures - suggests there's unrealistic views held in both positive and negative terms I'm reminded though, of one of Hilly's comments when we were riding high and some were complaining that we didn't take even greater advantage of teams. He said something along the lines of "Once we're 3-0 up there's no point in pressing on and humiliating opponents". That, of course, is a luxury mindset, with which i disagree. It's sport, not life, and the bigger the victory the better When we went 4-0 up at Stockport in 2007, they pulled 2 goals back before half time. That meant we had to push on again and ended up 7-2, including comeback goals from Daggers. That's the mentality i want to see. We've got it in us to dominate opponents, but there's something that's holding us back, and it's not the players [Post edited 2 Apr 20:32]

The point was... managerial approach to interviews (i should've been more specific) We're all pretty familiar with the JM approach now - both to games and to interviews - and it doesn't need to be constantly pointed out, let alone defended He may be adopting a 'strategic' approach to conserving the resources (physical and mental) over the course of a season. One could even argue it's working. We're now faced with a diminishing number of critical games where those resources will need to be adapted to what's needed, especially in "winner takes all" fixtures Let's see if his 'strategic' approach can be adapted to win when it really matters, as his counterpart in Bielefeld has 'managed' to do |

But in terms of managerial approach to games, non-identical twins... |

Good point about the hospital situation I'd suggest the better time to be attended would be the middle of the shift, when the doctor is fully engaged having spent the early part "waking up" (metaphorically, if not actually!) So what happens when the players get to the dressing room at half time? They're instructed to ease off, which is precisely the wrong message as any psychologist would confirm, and more importantly, as our results (itemised in this thread) amply demonstrate |

In terms of "tired minds", it's basic psychology that being energised to push forwards leads to more adrenalin flowing (i.e. the right amount) and losing that impetus results in tiredness You can be as knackered, physically and mentally, as you want after the final whistle - and then focus on recovery with a smile on your face Instead, the players will have left the pitch with things going on in their heads that won't have aided recovery Over the course of the season, these things add up and the person who can do most to turn that around instead concentrates on negatives These, too, are the reasons i'm not a fan of Jim McNulty |

"...who appear to have a resting state of barely contained anger..." One of the best phrases i've read on here! Thanks for your post. That point you gained could be vital in staying up; our manager is generous like that! |

""We didn't need luck at all because we were on the front foot the whole time," Bielefeld boss Michel Kniat said" Hmmm... |

It really is, but this is what the point of having a large squad is about For all the post-match interview moaning about budgets, ours has been extended and if those coming into the team aren't ready, it'll have been through lack of foresight |

Agree with that, and good to see our local Asian community having a handle on what's going on at the club We are seeing a few more Asian faces in the crowd, and i think it's something that could be taken up on a much greater scale, given the demographics. Would do wonders for community relations too and bring great publicity (after just about the worst over the past couple of decades) - providing any local hotheads are able to rein their necks in |

He was a great crosser, especially to Cross |

Was wondering about that too. Hope his mind isn't fully made up Only just catching up with today's results, much-needed morale booster all round. Been said too many times, only to be knocked back but let's hope this can be built upon now it really matters |
 | Forum Reply | Would you take out of the cup & play offs if it meant McNulty being sacked? at 09:59 28 Mar 2025
Vital that we get results in the next two games to rebuild some momentum and confidence ahead of the semi-final Ridiculous thing to be even thinking about, with us being in a playoff place in the division above the opposition (who absolutely aren't being underestimated) It is what it is, but there's been no sense at any stage during the season of the kind of momentum that a side vying for promotion should have |

Part of the great Ray Illingworth side that won the Ashes down under in 1970/71 too RIP |

if you've bought a ticket for the Spennymoor game, i'd urge you to turn up to watch what could be a make or break game for Dale and McNulty If we win, i think you might regret not being there. If we don't, it could be a defining moment that you might regret missing Of course, that's entirely up to you, and having attended fewer games this season than for many years, i'm in no position to question anyone else's reasons for not attending. I'm not doing that, since the reasons you're citing are the same reasons i've missed games As Sandyman posted last night, we should have a better idea of where things stand after 5 April |

It's just a catch-all term, james, whose greatest features are lethargy, inconsistency and inability to adapt during games (quoting a couple of exceptions doesn't wash) |

I booked my ticket (website issues notwithstanding) for the Spennymoor game as soon as they went on general sale; also reserved a hotel in London should we reach the final (with full refund option). These outlays take resources Many of us face the same question. I'm not badly off at all, but have other commitments (as most have) and therefore have to be a bit careful these days where the finances are allocated. I simply decided that watching McNulty-ball wasn't high enough on the list at least some of the time. So no, it's not a shame i missed last night, but a necessary reckoning which would be different if i was enthused about our football For me, you can multiply the citizens of Rochdale x thousands. Or, 5000, even That's the major driver of my thinking, and conclusions, which are that whilst it would be stupid to sack McNulty now, the train of thought by the Ogdens must surely be slowly turning towards the longer term [Post edited 26 Mar 12:28]
