... money for which by the way ultimately came out of the club, as has the money to set up and support the loss-making Yorkshire Radio.
Bates wanted YR to be one more way of bleeding more money from the Leeds United brand, at the same time he was setting about alienating the support base which is the ultimate source of that money. I think GFH are doing the right thing by thinking about the support base first and rebuilding that base before they try to monetise it.

Aidy White doesn't have a year left on his contract, he has about a month. Because of his age and the fact he came through the youth team, Leeds would receive compensation if he went elsewhere. McCormack, Snodgrass and Clayton have a year left and are considered sellable for a fee if they went now.
Clayton's starting price in negotiations seems to have been too high. McCormack feels that he could be playing at a higher level. Snodgrass may get a slightly better offer if he waits, it would seem. In my view McCormack isn't consistent enough for a striker even at this level, despite his numbers. He'd be better off (and so would we) cashing in and getting a better contract at this point – there's a 50/50 chance of him having a poor season and ending up on the bench. But equally I doubt Bates is willing to buy a consistent striker. As for Snodgrass - I saw an interview a while back and it was clear that at the time the guy earning the most money at Leeds was Andros Townsend, basically a Spurs youth team player on loan.
It's very difficult being a Premiership standard player at a team where there's a less than odds-on chance of going up, given the gap in wages. I'd love him to stay but much like Howson I can see why he wouldn't. |
