Aren’t football fans so fickle
at 11:13 14 Jan 2024

This forum is surely about people’s opinions isn’t it ? The fans are never going to all agree that is human nature.
After last year’s disastrous season and the debacle of hiring Jones and then the aftermath of Selles trying to salvage the already doomed wreckage it’s understandable after 4 straight defeats and leaking goals for fun in September that some Saints fans had enough. Thank goodness we have this board to air our frustrations.
I am old enough to remember Lawrie Mc having hot dogs, coffee and all sorts of rubbish being chucked at him when he made his way past the West Stand Dockers to the dug out back in the mid 70s after he took us down. What we all didn’t realise at the time that only a couple of years later we we would be on the global football stage with Pedro Rodrigues collecting the FA Cup off HRH The Queen.
In September I was critical of Martin’s style of football as it was just not achieving the results and success that us long suffering fans deserve.
Give credit where it’s due Russell Martin is turning the club around.

Sunderland Game Matchday Thread
at 14:56 2 Sep 2023

Tippy tappy possession based football with no substance or end product. Coupled with an absolutely useless goalie who can’t anticipate fook all except when his over inflated monthly pay hits his bank account just about sums up the current crock of shite that wear our beloved red & white shirt. A totally inept, pathetic, turgid, poor and pathetic performance. Welcome to the northern Championship that means more to them then it does to SFC. The last goal sums up our embarrassment of a goal keeper. A downward header straight at the fooker. He has to be dropped and bring in Mcarthy.

Fair play and a good structured response. As we have our Tella back where he rightfully belongs, his experience last season will help us “ do a Burnley”.

I am not miserable just disappointed that we didn’t win.

Russell Martin seems switched on and sharp. When he guides us to the illustrious heights of the Premiership then he will be held in legend status by the fans the same as Atkins until his tenure was in my opinion cruelly cut short by Cortese.

Bring on QPR to a cauldron, hostile, amphitheater of noise at SMS.

We are entitled to be moaning buggars. Family, job, SFC it’s my passion in that order. Like the majority of Saints fans it makes or breaks our weekends when we win. I am disappointed that we didn’t win today. Last weekend I felt a huge burden has been lifted from the club after the outstanding performance at Hillsborough. What a brilliant totally dominant display from the Saints. Today was great for the entertainment factor but give me a scrappy one nil win any day as opposed to a happy clapping lovey dovey 4/4 draw. Bollox to that, rather be top of the table enjoying my Saturday night out.

Just an opinion of a Saints fan that’s followed our beloved club through thick and thin since 1972.

Russell Martin is a media upgrade on the Welsh Druid that’s for sure but I would rather he spent more time working on our defensive frailties.

We ain’t going to win Fck all of we can’t defend set pieces.
Btw KWP is a shite defender in my opinion. Great going forward but bloody ell, his defensive attributes are woeful.

Just giving my views, I know everyone has their own but that’s what this board is all about isn’t it ?
Up the Saints.

Well that's the Russell Martin bounce back feel good factor over ! Same problems as the previous seasons. We just can't defend.
When are our managers ever going to learn ? You can't win any football matches without a decent defence.
In over 50 years of watching the Saints, Bazuna has to be the worst goal keeper ever to don the number 1 jersey. He is absolutely bloody useless. Same as last season, nearly every shot on target seems to go in.
A lucky draw. A pat on the back to the players for a battling draw but goodness me, shocking defending. As Souness would say too many defenders going to sleep at crucial times of the game, Manning especially for the 4th. As a pro footballer not being able to control the ball with his right foot in a dangerous defending situation is unacceptable. I suppose this is the standards and levels of performances that we have to get used to ?
Rant over.

That performance today sums up everything about Jones and his poor team selections plus ineffective tactics.
We have gone a long way backwards under him. The players are obviously not motivated by his prescence and if ever there was a case of a manager losing the dressing room then it has to be at Saints.
Still enough time for the Board bring in someone else with Premiership experience to keep us up.
The buck stops with Jones / Semmens. Get rid of em both NOW ! Save Our Saints.

Why? because our performances are actually getting worse. He has had zero positive impact on the team.
Only he knows why he plays Diallo and Elynoussi. Both can't tackle, pass, head, track runners or do anything to help the team. The first goal Elynoussi let Mee have a free header and for the second, Diallo never ran back to help out in the most crucial area of the pitch ie the penalty area.
I am at the end of my tether with Jones now. He has to go, he is a bloody useless manager.

Highbury 84 was particularily painful as we had a great side that year and were favourites to win the cup.
The lairy Scousers looking for trouble all day, the most ever Saints fans arrested at a match, 125 detained by the Met. Our coach back to the Spinnaker was a long, miserable journey.
I have not been to Nottarf Krap since the evening game of April 76 so thankfully didn't have to endure the 4-1 loss when Michael Svensson injured himself.
I do however despise those Caravan Dwelling Pikey Gypos as much as the Scousers.

If Nathan Jones proves the doubters (which include myself ) wrong then I will be the first to eat humble pie and admit my poor judgement of his ability when he was appointed in November.

I agree, lets be fair give the guy a chance and on the face of it there could be a couple of gems that we signed on deadline day that might be able to help us achieve survival.
My beef is with Martin Semmens for not hiring a proven Premiership Manager, of course Nathan Jones is going to accept a Head Coach role for a team in the best league in the world in the blink of an eye.

I absolutely hate it when Saints lose, I can't bring myself to watch Match Of The Day or listen to Talk Sport with all of the pundits tipping us to go down.
Sadly the inexperience of Jones shone through on Tuesday night. All day before the match I had in my mind that we were going to give the ball to Edozie as much as possible to attack the big lanky steark of pee Burn, have Armstrong and Adams pressing high up the pitch like a couple terriers and forcing the Newcastle defence into errors. Jones always says he wants his players to be bold and play without fear so as a Saints fan and like many of my mates we were expecting us to have a right good go and put the fear of God into the Geordies.
I could not believe the line up when it was announced. No Edozie, Lavia or Perraud who in my opinion been our best players of late, Walker-Peters at left back when it didn't work in the first leg, a rookie at right back, and Bottler Bednarek at CB who has played only 45 minutes all season.

I understand that football is all about opinions but Jones without a shadow of a doubt lost the tie in the first 20 minutes through his inexcusable crap selection. When he finally realiased that by playing Perraud at left back gives us a natural balance, Walker-Peters has a more attack threat at right back, Edozie can scare any defence with his trickery and Lavia is a classy midfielder that had Newcastle back peddling it was just too late and the game was over.

The turning point was Armstrong clean through one on one with Pope. Ings would have gone round him and it would have been game on for the last 15 miniutes.
I care passionately about my club as much as anyone else on here.

If you see my constructive criticism as "moaning" well so be it, 50 years of watching Saints I think I am qualified to be upset and express my disappointment as it still hurts to see my team lose today as much as Anderlecht in 1977, Forest at Wembley in 1979 them scouse gits in 84 and 86 semi finals, Redkrapp's team against United last game of the season in 2005 plus the FA Cup home 1-4 mauling by the Skates.

3 points against Brentford on Saturday and I might just break my dry to date 2023.

I wish he would just go, the most annoying Saints Manager ever. He really rates himself which makes the situation worse. Sadly we have an arrogant Welsh tw@t as our Manager.
