I echo all sentiments. A sad loss indeed.

Saints Fans Finally Get The Chance To Thank Billy Sharp !
at 18:56:17

Although I share the positive sentiments and, indeed, am no great admirer of Cortese, I have to say that I am not sure that Sharp was ever going to make it in the PL for Saints. I am obviously getting old because I don't even remember Mayuka. I remember Guly getting pretty harsh treatment from a section of the fans though.

Good luck to Billy Sharp - but NOT ON SATURDAY....

Moussa Djenepo The Surprise Package Against Liverpool
at 21:48:31

Why would this guy be a surprise package'? He was one of our big summer signings. We should play 2 CBs and get him in there vs Brighton.

Danso Needs To Start At Brighton But Who Will He Replace
at 21:47:03

I agree with the 4-4-2 Bednarek and Danso comments. I reckon Yoshi and Vestergaard should be the two reserves and the other two should be sold ASAP. We should then get a good CB in January (that's January 2020 by the way.)

Saints V Liverpool The Verdict
at 14:34:06

A missed opportunity for a 'surprise' point but encouraging that we played better. Far too early to panic. The defence is what it is (one of the weakest in the league) so it will be our attacking abilities that decide the fate of our season - if we are still not scoring after 10 or so games then it will be time to panic. No reason why we can't win at Brighton - probably have to score 2 or 3 to do so mind.

Saints At Burnley The Verdict
at 12:05:18

Great verdict and although comments on the defence are (sadly/obviously) predictable I agree with them too.

It is a huge concern that the club chose not to strengthen the centre of defence. Lemmsy's point is a good one re who we might have bought but buying no one apart from an untried 20 year old was NOT an option. We are now reliant on our attacking resources + Hojberg in MF - if they don't work there is no reason for us not to go down.

Everton Interested In Lemina

Where does a hawking agent go once the top six say 'you've got to be kidding'? Leicester are probably keen too! No - he will have to go abroad and as for 20m, dream on...

Transfer Window Disparities A Problem For Saints And All English Clubs
at 14:04:19

We bought loads of overpriced tripe and now can't sell them for anywhere near what we bought them for. True - but as a sob story narrative for why we can't buy a CB or two it is very worrying. We need to take a hit on thesae players and sell them for what we can get - what possible motive is there for keeping and loaning? They will be worth even less in a year's time. The rational approach is to accept that lots of money was wasted and cut our losses. I am fed up with all the arguments about our CBs - none of em are good enough - to not buy is madness.

Saints At Feyenoord The Verdict
at 10:25:39

Total madness not to significantly strengthen the defence. Any hopes to actually challenge higher up the table will come to nothing if we leave things as they are. We have several second reserves at CB but none that merit first choice selection in a premier league team. Right-back is a big concern to.

It is great that we appear to have strengthened up front and that should help us get more points than the previous two seasons - but without a defence....

Hasenhuttl Imposes His Discipline On The Squad
at 14:41:59

Comments right below the article - just like the old days!

Lemina is simply not good enough to get away with behaving like this. VVD had the distinct advantage of being one of the best players in the world. Lemina will have to lower his expectations a lot. As for Charlie, his behaviour at least has better motivations (I think). I hope he gets somewhere. Neither deserves a share of the fee we receive for them - Lemina's behaviour is effectively a transfer request...

Ralph Happy With First Week.
at 10:11:33

Yes - it really is killing the site. I think it is some sort of botch because no one would think we wanted match reports from last January. I'm delighted that the Ipswich players are looking forward to their trip to Germany - not sure which season that was though. Please TUI solve the problem - I love coming on here but this is stupid.

Is Lemina's Big Club Move Just A Pipe Dream
at 17:05:56

Another 'record signing' that didn't work out. None of the big boys will want him because he aint good enough. His comments and attitude should disqualify him from any share of a transfer fee - but of course they won't.

Why did it take me half an hour to scroll down past loads of old stuff or things about other clubs?

Saints Confirm The New Board Structure
at 11:08:30

Chairman Gao indeed.

It is certainly true that he hasn't promised us the earth and that we have no choice but to trust him.

I think that little will change and our immediate future will be decided by the manager and the summer transfer activity. If we keep the manager for a couple of seasons and trust him over the squad building then the only way is (surely) up...

Saints V Huddersfield The Verdict
at 21:40:38

Yes - I echo all those thanking Nick for such a good forum + thanks to all of you who contribute so much with comments. It doesn't matter that we don't agree - it would be boring and rather pointless if we did.

As for whether I am looking forward to the summer - I am at the moment and at least there will be lots of comings and goings. Of course the whole Gao situation is a puzzle but I am hoping for the best. Three or four good purchases and we could be up in the 7th to 10th race. Before the rather flat end to the season Ralph's points average was challenging for 7th - even at the end it was 12th I think. So there is hope!

Saints V Huddersfield The Verdict
at 12:06:39

Ralph achieved his target and knows clearly who has to go and what we need. Let's hope he can get enough new talent in to make next season a far better one.

Nick is quite right not to bother analysing this one. It does emphasise our lack of quality. Even at a stroll you would think we would beat a side who kicked off with just 15 points. The fact we weren't surprised that we didn't says it all. I am looking forward to the summer!

Who Should Stay And Who Should Go !
at 13:01:23

Just to clarify my comments on JWP: If his improvement in recent times leads to an offer many millions more that we'd have got for him a year ago then I think we should take it. I, like his supporters on here, see positives in him but I still don't believe he will ever be the commanding midfielder a top 7 chasing team needs. Of course the debate is totally meaningless if no big offer comes in - will be interesting if a 'quite' big one comes in though!!

Who Should Stay And Who Should Go !
at 17:36:49

Isn't Clasie out of contract?

I agree with nearly all of the above but would want to see Armstrong stay for another season. Also I would take silly money (if offered) for JWP as, although he has improved, he's still not a complete enough player to merit a regular place.

Is the 'transfer kitty' simply money raised from sales or will the owner show a bit of willing? Ralph wont stay long if we don't show a little bit of ambition...
