There’s a lot of context though. They wouldn’t have walked off had the exact same decision been given in the semi. The conduct of the Moroccan squad, authorities, security etc. has been pretty dreadful. Doesn’t totally excuse what Senegal did but it’s kind of unprecedented at least going back quite some time.
There is of course the problem that if you play Madsen and Morgan you do have an additional professional footballer capable of passing a football fairly reliably but have one fewer to pass to and possibly score an actual goal. I thought one of Kolli’s strengths was dropping into the ‘10’ and linking with the midfield.
It’s also far more common over the course of a football match to have heart rate spikes too I would have thought. I’m not into rugby or cricket to anything like the same extent but the sort of adrenaline rush we experience even at a fairly mundane second division match isn’t matched nearly as regularly even by passionate rugby/cricket fans (rugby league probably more so but the nature of the game still probably lends itself to being easier on the heart). Stick a load of mostly sedentary, not overly healthy middle-aged blokes into a football stadium environment and I’m surprised it’s not more common.
Indeed. Edwards gets it up the pitch a bit more so Madsen gets it a bit higher so the winger gets it a bit higher so the striker gets it near enough to the goal to score. The theory is sound anyway.
There’s no chance this isn’t bent. The Cameroon match was bad enough without them needing help but that was something else. They’ve been horrible whingers led by Diaz all tournament so it’s great he was arrogant enough to try that. Would be incredible if Senegal somehow win it now.
Football has changed I know but Ferdinand was 22 when he came back from Turkey I believe. Kone has skipped all the academy, playing through the lines schooling and gone straight into big boy football. I don’t think it was ever realistic for him to come in and be consistently a good Champ striker from day one. Agree he isn’t up to it often enough right now.
41% saying they’ll do it isn’t the same as 41% getting through the month doing it and I’d have thought that doesn’t include those who just never/rarely drink for religious reasons or otherwise. I’m not a big drinker and have probably had more in January than December so I’m doing my bit for the pubs.
Despite being pretty woeful since Leicester we’re four points off sixth. It really is still there for us (and about a dozen other teams) if we want it. We all know it won’t happen but it is.
Another positive- we didn’t get bullied when some rough challenges were going in with a referee clearly miles out of his depth allowing a game to unravel. Would’ve been a time nice, meek Rangers let it happen away from home. Dished out a bit of our own.
Rather give the kid a chance out wide than at full-back, especially away. Can’t be any less of a soft tart than Dembele, has a right foot and frees up KD to do his 20 minutes of running at the end rather than being half dead by the hour mark.
Fitness again. Injuries are one thing but we had nothing in the tank to really have a go when it was there for us. Kone in a great position with one defender to beat and loads of space but tries to shoot from miles out because he’s knackered. Dembele so ridiculously soft.
Absolutely a result we’d have taken and credit to the whole defence and Walsh doing the few things he had to well enough and perhaps it would’ve been a bit different had Cisse been sent off as he should have but still feel it’s points dropped because they were dire.
