Thats not what I meant but can see how it came across like that. I'm not suggesting Nourry picks the team or anything like that. The club policy though it to push development players into the first team which is not a bad thing but same as under Ferdinand it doesn't work if those players are not ready or good enough.
I think he's been promoted up the pecking order far sooner than he should have been. Another one who would have benefitted more from regular football out on loan rather than thrown in every few weeks and taken off at half time.
It's not really controversial, Nourry has been quite clear thats what he wants to see happen with development players given a chance. Ferdinand was the same for the first few years.
There's nothing sinister in it but he wants these development players fast tracked to the first team, thats no secret but they are not good enough. It's the same with Bennie, Walsh and to a certain extent Morgan.
Was the same a first under Ferdinand, players were pushed forward when either not ready or not good enough just so they could say look how many development players have made the first team.
I just don't know what we were trying to do. We seemed to start with a back 3 with Saito and Bennie as number 10's but no one seemed to know where they were playing. Vale was so poor for the first goal just not tracking his man, massive gaps between the 3 centre halves and and the two midfield players. It was just rubbish. I'm not sure why Mbengue wasn't picked as the right wing back with Vale in the number 10.
Second half when we went back to 4-4-2 it was marginally better but I didn't really get Vale at left back, Sheffield United eased off so we came back into the game without ever really looking a threat.
Just poor from players and manager, basically back where we were a year ago. Promosing position wasted and now 2 months to get 4 points to ensure we stay up. Just depressing.
He poulled up with something, looked like a hamstring and as we were defending he tried to play on and get back in position. He signalled pretty quick he had to come off
It's a mad and very outdated to have all your teams playing the same way. That was fine for Wenger at Arsenal and Pep at Barcelona but what you want from your academy and development teams is to produce players who can adapt and play in different systems and positions because during their career that is what they will need to do if they have going to make it.
The first team should have a set style of how they are going to play under each manager but it's not realistic to have a club style regardless of who the manager is
I'd probably go with 3 at the back, would mean a bit more protection for Esquerdinha and Edwards is good enough on the ball to push into midfield when we have the ball.
Fair play for writing that up, it sums it all up very well.
I ranted about it on the Hoops & Dreams pod last night but game management of this team is bonkers. Wrexham at home was a special one but Tuesday was mad.
1-0 down right on half time just defend the corner, nothing else to do but you have one bloke unmarked 3 yards out, our defence too far away from the keeper allowing space and easy runs all before your keeper does that.
Then second half, you just stay in the game, nothing stupid get to 60-70 mins at 0-2 and try and play on their nerves nick a goal make it difficult but not a comically piss poor goal for 0-3.
Then we get a free kick and rather than just take sting out of the game which is clearly over we push everyone forward, your centre halves both up with only one player back, a quick counter and they are 3 against 1 in our half, the kind of goal you expect to see in the last minute when you are throwing everyone forward.
If you go back 50 years we've conceded 5 or more goals on 31 occasions. Since we came down in 2015 we've conceded 5 or more on 9 occasstions. We've conceded 4 goals in a game 16 times since 2015/16 as well.
To break that down a bit we've conceded 5 in a game 4 times since 15/16, We've let in 6 three times and let in 7 twice.
In those 50 years we've conceded 7 goals on 3 occassions, 2 of them have been in the last 10 years
These are some of the hidings we've had in the last 10 years, 10 at home 14 away. The other night wasn't a one off, standards at this club are through the floor. We go again though
