Man Utd is a good shout. Bayern might be interested as well with Kane already there

Southgate’s replacement.

The last Euros he took Saka in the training squad to cover whilst a few were in the champions league final and he was so good in the friendlies as was Grealish that they were in the final squad and both playing regular as well

I do think if Wharton gets a chance and does well he has a great opportunity to get in here, he is exactly the midfield player England need

In my head if Grealish was being left out he wouldn't be in this squad, the big name ones not going are already done imo, could be wrong though as I do agree with what you are saying
Southgate is quite good at picking players who are thrilled to be there whether they play or not, Grealish is probably one of those, a good bloke around the camp

With Kanes injury I think he'll take Toney and Watkins as back up

He said it was that big due to the injuries they have plus Bellingham is in champions league final so doubt he'll play the friendlies

depends a lot on injuries but would think one of the keepers, Dunk and one of Guehi or Knonsa would drop out, possibly Shaw if hes not ready

Curtis Jones won't go and depends if he gets a chance in the friendlies but I'd go Wharton over Mainoo myself but think it will be the other way around

I think Gordon will go, might be Bowen who misses out and one of Eze & Maddison

i agree with you on Grealish but think he would have been left out now if he wasn't in the main squad

Playing devils advocate wouldn't Ancelloti be a similar move to Capello, I don't disagree he's a miles better manager than the English options but that doesn't mean he's the best fit for the England job

I've always thought international football should be the best of our country v the best of yours so I'd always prefer us to have an English manager

Eze Rumours

both Eze and Olise signed new contracts this season and I would be amazed if they didn't include a release clause for a certain fee, they are both likely to go this summer

If you go back through history our record against top 10 ranked teams in knockout games is abysmal and thats pretty much where England have always been, a good team who usually go out when they face a team who are either equal to them or better than them. I personally don't expect that to change this summer or when the next manager comes in

yeah I do think thats where he has fallen short, I thought he got his subs wrong in the final and in the French game as well and it's those tiny details which are the difference at the moment

I doubt we've ever had a manager who is so experienced at tournament football as a player, under 21 manager and now England manager, must have been to 8/9 in his career so you'd hope he is as well prepared as anyone can be for this

it's also far more risk of not working, international football usually sees the best defence and more pragmatic team win the tournaments rather than the best attack. France have the best of both worlds at the moment which is why they should be favourites

what are the other options that he should have been tried?
Only really Branthwaite has come through this year and I think he'll get in the squad. Guehi at Palace has played a few games.

At left back there really aren't many other options than Shaw & Chilwell, it's a weak area for England. Mitchell from palace has a few caps but Dan Burn the only other option When you are down to the 4th choice it's not really something you can blame the manager for

his first choice left back getting injured and John Stones falling out of favour isn't really his fault

problem you have with Foden is he often plays wide and drifts inside for City and is very good at it but that's the space Kane tends to play in so for England Foden does end up being ineffective.

You could play him as a 10 behind Kane and drop Bellingham deeper which I think is the ideal way to go and means you can play a real wide player such as Gordon or Sterling out there but not sure Southgate will go that way as again its where Kane likes to operate

We certainly have the attacking players to win it, but so do a few other sides.

I just think the players wouldn't be good enough to implement his ideas. Don't get me wrong he wouldn't be struggling and bottom but I don't think he'd be a guarantee of success either

If Man City get punished we might find out
