Shane Long Set To Return Against Stoke City
at 15:07:56

My prediction remains the saame as my previous comments elswhere. RK will be ultra defensive in the absence of Fonte and the inclusion of Yoshida.

Forster, VVD, Yoshida and Bertrand at the back, 2 wing backs, Clasie, Romeu and Wanyama, and Pelle and Long up front.

Hoping for 0-0 or 0-1

Saints Face Central Defensive Crisis Ahead Of Stoke City Game
at 12:48:01

sorry legod7, I was making the point that Koeman seems to be getting more and more defensive with every game, so it should have read "3 other midfielderswith just one of them acting as striker"

Saints Face Central Defensive Crisis Ahead Of Stoke City Game

Koeman likes Yoshida. So, the formation will be 3 at the back (Yoshida, Van Dijk and Bertrand), 2 wing backs and 2 defensive midfield and 3 other midfielders with just one striker.

The plan will be tight, tight, tight and hope for a break.

Does Charlie Austin Signing Spell The End For Pelle Sooner Than later
at 18:00:58

I find the comments here really heartening.

Pelle has done brilliantly for us and our whole game was built around what he did well. In his absence through injury RK has had to find a different way he has done so brilliantly.

If Pelle wants to leave in the summer ok, but personally I would rather he stayed, he still has much to offer Saints

Koeman After Only One Player In Transfer Window

let's keep it simple - "we will only buy players BETTER than the ones we have" - taking yesterdays starting 11 plus Pelle, Tadic and Wanyama, with JRod coming back soon - just who would you bring in and to replace who?

Saints V Watford The Verdict
at 18:35:17

against the Baggies we will need speed to get behind them, so we should play the same starting 11. Fonte's look when asked if happy to have Fraser back in goal saved a million words.

Also very glad to see RK saying we should only buy players that are better than we ones we have, he's right and it suggests some big signings in the summer, players also better than any we sell!

Koeman Talks Tough And Saints Fans Everywhere Applaud
at 11:31:42

Today the academy successes go into the 1st team squad, the "almosts" go out on loan to get game practice to bring them on. But we continue to hang on to academy graduates who will not make it, they need to be moved on to promote younger players in the academy who should be given their chance earlier and the players who do not develop on loan also need to be moved on, not come back into the ranks blocking the progresso of younger players

Saints Fans Need To Rally Round Club In It's Time Of Need
at 14:14:48

I would like to speak about 2 issues, firstly RK's future and then the investment in the squad, not exactly unrelated.

RK clearly sees his long term ambition as the manager of Barcelona, a fine objective and one that I do not begrudge him. He has all the credentials for the job except for trophies in the EPL. He gets only one shot at this as failure at Saints will mean no other appointment in the EPL. So, he will stay with us as long as he feels he can achieve success here and I would be amazed if the board considered sacking him. What does he need to succeed with Saints? He needs a better squad, a settled squad and that means more investment by the owners. No-one needs to leave we do need better players so that some of our current good 1st team become squad players because the new recruits are better.

Now the Academy - promotion to the 1st team has slowed to a stop either because RK does not rate them or because as the EPL gets stronger it becomes harder to make the grade. Either way things need to change, let us clear out the good, but not quite good enough and use the money received and places opened up to bring in new hopefuls. We cannot go on simply stockpiling "almost good enough" players

Mane Happy At St Mary's Despite Links With A Move Away
at 12:36:48

I think that there are 2 issues here. Paying more to the key players we want to keep, the new TV deal should allow that, and inserting buyout figures as they do in Spain. Overall, however, success breeds success so the better the club does the fewer teams our players will want to go to and the easier it will be to recruit replacements when they do go (or get injured or stop being as good)

Wanyama Offered New Contract
at 13:49:37

Ok you may be right but what a mature way for the club to address the situation with Victor. We should tie key players on longer deals and that includes RK and his team. That might also force the club to change the selling club image inorder to keep RK I

Why Isn't Thursday Night Sold Out ?
at 09:50:01

Realism, thank you Dperc. We can all do our bit, whatever that amounts to, and the rest of us should be pleased that others are trying or wanting to be as "good" a fan as we think we are. Pull together, I get a feeling that every voice and hope will be needed against the Danes.

Norwich Looking To Hijack Koulibaly Deal
at 09:33:06

This is really strange and so un-Saints like. It has been clear that we needed a CB since Toby went to Spurs, Caulker is an excellent loanee, but a proper long term solution has been needed for some weeks. I cannot believe that the VVD talk has all been media speculation and I cannot believe that Saints have been doing nothing behind the scenes. Panic should not play a factor as we already have Fonte, Yoshida, Caulker and Gardos as well as youngsters coming through, surely, we only need one CB albeit a really outstanding one. Have we really waited weeks for VVD only to find him unavailable?

I live in Portugal and my son in Denmark, we bought tickets even though we cannot go, gave them to friends, went to Arnhem have tickets for away game (home areas). I think that we will find this round really difficult, They've won every game but one and do not let in goals, our fans are needed on Thursday

Saints V Everton The Verdict
at 12:45:05

A strong defensive set up last season led to a confidence in our overall performance levels. We need to re-establish that attitude through a less attacking approach to start with. The current back 4 is not strong enough, everyone knows that: Targett is not "not good enough" just "not yet good enough". Yoshida is good enough for a backup CB, but not the regular CB. Short term in the EPL we need to protect the defence with a stronger midfield, so Wanyama, Romeu, Reed and Davis. In the EL we can perhaps be more attacking with Tadic and Ward Prowse or 3 forwards instead of 2. The return of Bertrand and the integration of Clasie will help enormously but all those cries for a new CB are right

Saints Confirm Jordy Clasie Signing
at 18:34:09

There is still work to do, especially with a centre back. Only Juanmi is not a replacement for someone we've "lost". The new guys look good enough to take us further forward and with the addition of JRod we now look more dangerous up front. Success is always built on a sound defence. Koeman knows that and showed that last year, but this CB is critical. I would also like to understand which guys he has chosen from the youngsters to step up. Last year we saw Reed, Ward Prowse and Targett make the step up, who will it be this year? Opinions................

Alderweireld Future Could Be Decided In The Next Week
at 15:55:58

I have said from the start that the retention of Toby was the most important part of this summer's transfer trading. We must do everything we can to retain his services. For him to go to Spurs would be a double blow.
