Oops, forgot to ask...How exactly have the EU not been 'open and transparent'. Is the EU parliament conducted in secret behind closed doors? Are they making rules about bendy bananas without telling us?
I sometimes fear that people think that fascism arrives in fancy dress worn by grotesques and monsters as played out in endless re-runs of the Nazis.
Fascism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you...
It doesn't walk in saying, "Our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."
I totally agree with you that donations from our aid budget in many cases is money wasted. The government of the day should make sure that any aid given goes directly to those in need. Spending aid on space projects? That's obscene given the poverty in India but you could also argue the same for the USA. Should charity begin at home? Difficult one. Relatively speaking, we are super rich compared with millions in the third world. I deal with a registered charity in the UK which is actually a training and advisory council for a certain industrial sector. Would I give money to bolster the capitalist economy or children dying in Africa? Difficult one that.
Not sure what specific point you're trying to make Saint In Stoke but... If Brexit is a good thing, where are the trade deals in place with the rest of the World? If we export a substantial amount of our goods and services to the EU don't you think they will have the whip hand on negotiations? Why are we being told to prepare for the worst? I don't think I'll being putting the Prosecco on ice just yet. Discuss.
Fair point ITYS since some posters here have been trying to claim this is some sort of exclusively Muslim problem. I've been around many years and remember when my parents warned us about 'dirty old men' and the like and not to accept lifts in cars from strangers. How about the widespread abuse committed by Christian priests or white Anglo-Saxon celebrities? This is an age old issue which spans across races and religions. There's good people, bad people and downright evil people.
Jeez, trust the BBC to mess with it. What's next? Transgender, single parent, ethnic minority, wheelchair-bound Dr Who? There's bits of the Beeb I love - Radio 4 (The Archers, I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, Shipping Forecast etc) but they just can't help themselves can they. Grrr!!!!
