Southgate does it again
at 12:40 11 Jul 2024

Fully agree chasaint80 we’ve earnest a bit of luck but not sure I agree with your comment about fair play and yes we were the better side on the night.

Reference all the examples of previous injustices I believe I’m correct in saying they were all pre V A R ?

Yesterday the referee initially gave a goal kick and his decision was changed. Was the outcome correct . Oddly enough a poll of viewers in the sports section of the B B C suggests that by a margin of two to one the answer was “ no”. Not that it matters now so onwards to Sunday.

When I last looked at my Birth Certificate I’m pretty sure it confirmed that I’m English.

Maybe it’s because there are a lot more years behind me than in front that I’m not one of the modern day win at all cost merchants.

By any standard the referee tonight was poor. Interestingly the media suggest that he was banned for six months in 2005 for taking a bribe, not that I’m suggesting he’s corrupt of course.

Tonight’s referee banned and suspended for 6 months in 2005 for taking a bribe

If the media reports are correct how on earth was he allowed to officiate a Euro Semi Final ?

Much the same way that our friend from Brentford continues to play I suppose.

And they call it the beautiful game.

I’ve long thought that English refs were poor ( step forward Anthony Taylor for not giving a nailed on hand ball in the Germany game ) but the guy tonight took incompetence to a new level.

For the penalty the shot over the bar from Kane had already left his foot before the Dutch player made contact. What is the point of V A R if he can’t even see that in slow motion ? Interestingly not one England player appealed for a penalty.

Leading up to our winning goal he completely missed by error or design an England player having the last touch on a Dutch cross and gave a goal kick when every man and his dog could see it should have been a corner.

Poor or corrupt ? Only he knows I suppose. Nonetheless he took the shine off of the result for me.

Hopefully for the Final on Sunday they will appoint somebody who vaguely knows what he is doing.

Danny Ings Making It Hard For West Ham To Push Him Out Of The Door
at 12:57 10 Jul 2024

What is it with our never ending obsession with signing our old players ?

The squad that got us back to The Premiership probably isn’t good enough to keep us in it but there surely must be better ways at trying than this.

Llanna, Ings and Oxlaide Chamberlain are washed up injury prone has beens all looking for a last big pay day. They are all part of the past not the future.

As for West Ham agreeing to pay Ings £6 million a season for his services. Frankly, they must have had more money than sense.

A salutary lesson that I hope all MPs elected to the new Parliament will take on board.

You are given the job to work for the benefit of the people that elect you and whilst doing so you are expected to abide by the rules of common decency.

Behave appallingly during a Covid National Emergency, ignore the rules as Johnson, Sunak and Hancock did and you will find that the people have a unique way of dispensing with your services.

For one day ,usually every four or five years power in a democracy is placed in the hands of the British people and on Thursday we exercised it brilliantly.

With great respect Bazza it’s time for us all to put it to bed now.

The people ( in my view not enough of them ) have had their say and the election is over. With the majority Labour have obtained it looks like those of us who will still be around have been given a five year red card before we need to return to the General Election pitch again.

It’s now an appropriate moment for us all to thank everyone who has contributed to a lively debate over the last six weeks and concentrate on football and S F C in particular.

Brilliant post Heisenberg and also that followed up by kentsouthampton.

Bazza doesn’t agree but that doesn’t matter because in a democracy he’s fully entitled to his view and has an opportunity to express it today. That’s what matters.

Our system has its faults as Jellybaby has pointed out, nonetheless it should be cherished and all Saints fans should use it today by making an effort to vote.

Place your cross for whoever you wish and remember with respect, that there were hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens who not that long ago gave everything for us to have such an opportunity today.

Under pressure, having done nothing for days Rishi Sunak finally manages to summon up courage and disown this fella.

Mr Williams responds by issuing a statement saying that he has committed an error of judgement not a criminal offence.

Strange, because I would have thought that gambling on something knowing full well that there is only one possible outcome, would be seen by most fair minded people as simple cheating.

Cheating is an offence I believe under the 2005 Gambling Act which carries a maximum punishment of two years imprisonment.

If his constituents show him the door on July 4 his grubby attempt to make a quick £500 is going to prove one of the most costly wagers he will ever make.

“With Tories it always used to be sex scandals”.Not heard of Michelle Mone then Bridders2?

You know, the bra lady who I believe currently sits in the House of Lords as a Conservative.

My memory isn’t so good as it used to be, but wasn’t she ( perhaps still is ) under investigation by the National Crime Agency concerning a £200 million pound contract with the Government to supply PPE during Covid ?

Southgate was an average centre half and had an average management career before taking the England job.

Today I read a comment which sums him up perfectly:-

“He is the kind of guy who would wear a cycle helmet whilst riding a Peloton.”

If we are to win the tournament he needs to completely change his mind set and put out a team to attack rather than one coached to play “ After you Claude.” sideways and backwards football.

I suspect however that he won’t change and Englands search for a first major competition win since 1966 will shortly be extended for a further two years.

What I find incomprehensible given the life style they already have is why any of the Tories concerned would bother.

In the case of the first M P that got found out it’s suggested that the bet was £100 at 5/1. Who in their right mind risks their reputation for a gain of just £500 ? After all it’s not exactly a life changing sum is it ?

I’ve no idea as to the sum allegedly gambled by the Director of Conservative Campaigns wife but unless it was a sum far in excess of the first M P’s punt it’s equally difficult to understand why she bothered.

Reference the member of Rishi Sunaks close protection team who it is alleged was arrested and suspended from duty for placing a bet. Would he by any chance be a member of The Metropolitan Police an organisation who I believe to be in Special Measures ?

What the Red Tops also don’t tell us saint901 is that at the end of December 2023 there were 128786 asylum seekers waiting to have their claim for citizenship heard. 65% of that figure had been waiting more than 6 months.

Yet another example to add to your list of things that are important, not forgetting of course a failing judiciary system where I understand that it’s not unusual for rape victims to have to wait 3 years before their case is put before the courts.

Well done Bazza it takes a person with a good character to apologise, thank you.

I’ve held some strong views myself and made comments which later I wished I hadn’t, so your not alone by a long chalk. It’s all part of being human I suppose.

At the end of the day we may disagree about politics but what matters is that for some bizarre reason we all agree that we love The Saints.

Bazza, for the benefit of every one, including your good self, let’s keep our comments civil please.

I appreciate that passions may run deep particularly at general election time, but the content of your first sentence is not really necessary and does you no credit whatsoever. In the circumstances an apology would not go amiss.

A very interesting manifesto ( he referred to it as contract ) from Mr Farage. The only concern being that every man and his dog immediately sussed that it was not financially viable.

Was I surprised at their conclusion, of course not. Why? Because his fantasy land economics are being put forward by a man who told us all that if we voted for his previous master plan the N H S would immediately receive an additional £350 million pounds a week and our borders would be instantly controlled. I don’t recall that’s gone very well, do you ?

Mr Farage is a charlatan with only two interests in life, himself and his good friend the equally odious Mr Trump. In their case never a truer word spoken “ Judge a man by the company he keeps “.

Bridder2 I think that you may find that your definition of the 150,000 to which you refer is incorrect.

It is my understanding that under International Law such people are asylum seekers and remain so until their application for asylum has been heard. They only become illegal immigrants should their application fail.

Whether you or anybody else thinks that giving them asylum is good or bad for the country is a matter of personal opinion.

What I suggest most people can agree with is the fact that the Tory Government of the past 14 years allowing such a vast backlog of applications to have accumulate has benefited absolutely no one whatsoever.

Some Tragic News About SFC_Referee
at 17:53 17 Jun 2024

I never met him but like many others who have posted, imagined that by the quality and thoughtfulness of his contributions he was much older than 19 years.

Coping with the loss of a child is beyond my comprehension. Hopefully his father and family may take some small comfort from seeing the esteem he was held in by those who met him together with other Saints who follow the Ugly.

Rest in Peace, Sir.

Difficult to see much of a chance of progressing to the final with Kane up front, totally ineffective once again.
