![]() Tuesday, 1st Apr 2008 11:14 Saints have recieved a demand for an EGM The alledged deadline being passed, Rupert Lowe and Michael Wilde have issued notice of a requisition to call an EGM. The notice calls for the removal of Crouch, Lee Hoos and Patrick Trant from the board of the PLC and their replacement with Lowe, Wilde and Andrew Cowan. Of course many supporters will be horrified at the timing of the notice and equally worried about the return of Rupert Lowe, but it isnt just Wilde and Lowe to blame for this, all of the major shareholders have to hold up their hands and admit that the past year has seen many things done that were not in the interests of Southampton Football Club. Indeed it is this sites belief that the bickering that has been going on behind the scenes since the deposal of Lowe that has been the root cause of the problem. We also belive that it is very rich of those who stand to lose their places on the board to state that the timing is despicable and that no true supporter or shareholder would contemplate such a move, after all wasnt it these same people who a year ago drove Wilde out of the boardroom themselves, and wasnt that at a crucial time as well, as we pushed back towards the premier and were in alledged negotiations with Paul Allen. Sadly there are many in and around this club who have become parasites and have lost sight of just what the club is and means to the local community and indeed their duty to it, and i am not referring to any one individual here nor just those involved in this latest embarrasing scenario. Fact is though that emotional hatred for lowe aside the Club and Company are being run completely at odds with good corporate governance, it isnt wrong for the major shareholders in a company to want a place on the board and a say in running it, we as fans perhaps dont agree with the person coming in, but from a corporate governance perspective it is right. At present the Club does not have anyone involved with the running who has any experience in the operations of either a football club or a PLC, in truth the situation at present is no different than under Lowe a couple of years back and that is wrong. It needs the major shareholders to combine together to work towards stabilising the club and its position, it needs them to stay out of the football side of things and perhaps appoint a strong experienced chief executive for the everyday running. The only hope for Southampton Football Club is for a major investor to come in, sadly though they are not encircling St Mary's, however the vultures are. it is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
