Morgan Schneiderlin Celebrates Sixth Anniversary
Thursday, 8th May 2014 12:36

Saints midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is celebrating not just his sixth anniversary of joining the club, but of not joining Arsenal.

This week has seen reports of Arsene Wenger about to launch a £15 million pound bid for Morgan Schneiderlin, this will have a sense of deja vu for the French midfielder because when he joined Saints back in the summer of 2008 it was amidst rumours that he was wanted at the Emirates, indeed there were some rumours that said that he was only coming to St Mary's to give him a little experience and that the deal to sell him on to Arsenal the following summer had already been signed.

Since then you could almost set your calendar by the annual rumour that Arsene Wenger was coming to get his man, with the club in administration in 2009 that seemed to be a perfect time for Wenger to pounce but strangely he didn't do so when he could have got the player for peanuts with Saints desperate for money to keep them afloat.

Its now an annual occurrence for Arsenal to be "about" to launch a bid for Morgan although strangely enough they never do, always seemingly to prefer paying top dollar for someone else to under perform in their midfield for the following season.

So it was no surprise to read this week that Wenger is allegedly sending scouts to watch Schneiderlin play against Manchester United this weekend, why he would need to do so this weekend is a mystery after all this is the 7th summer running he has been linked with the player, if he hasn't made up his mind about him yet, then surely a meaningless end of season fixture is not going to tell him anything he doesn't already know and finally push him into taking the plunge.

What perhaps Wenger should be concerned about though is inflation, Schneiderlin arrived for £1.2 million six years ago and the price has steadily risen, now it seems to be at the £15 million mark, if Wenger doesn't act soon it could shoot up even further.

Let's hope Wenger leaves doesn't follow this up, Morgan is such a consistent performer for us and one of those I'd be most concerned about if he went.

Cripes ...... don't let Arsene, or any other top manager see that video!!
Sheer Class.

How on earth he hasn't made the French squad, let alone the starting XI is mind boggling.

Definitely hope he stays a great asset to the team. Price mentioned is derisory. Why would he want to join the serial under achievers anyway.

The 40 man squad for France gets announced soon - if the internet rumours are anything to go by then there may be good reason to be hopeful for him.

Getting recognition whilst at Saints is key. It has made a big difference for the English contingent. If Fonte and Schneiderlin are scouted and considered then it will avoid the mentality that they need to move to a "bigger" club to get the visibility.

Saints are at a critical crossroads this summer and everyone will be watching to see if the board will stick or twist.

I like morgan, but I have to say if we had to lose one player for a big fee in the summer, we can cope with his departure more than we can any other player

We seem to have moved a little from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3. If so then midfield three from Wanyama, Cork, Davis, JWP is still classy, so I think yuo make a valid point as much as I love Morgan. Davis has done well on the right in the attacking three, but doesn't carry the same level of goal threat. Hopefully we will look to add with a striker, a winger, and backup goalkeeper and CB.

PS. That Youtube vid has been pulled. Perhaps for the best as I think Wenger might be logging on soon...

£15m is not enough for one of our standout players. I hope France don't select him, he opts to play for England and we keep him on board.

I think we need to keep a pool of 5 midfielders to guard against injuries and loss of form (plus a playmaker at 10).

I disagree with you Nick I would regretfully prefer to see us sell Shaw for the megabucks rumoured in the press (because we have cover) than Morgan for what seems to me to be rather a mean sum.
