First Signing Completed Thursday, 7th May 2015 13:26 by Editor On the day that Manchester United complete their first deal of the summer spending £25-30 Million on Depay, it seems strange that we were once in the same league. Blackpool have announced their first deal and we've plunged in to the Evo Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division for our first deal. The price tag not quite in the millions - a pre-season game against his former club Blyth Spartans!
It would be glib and remiss to diss any new player coming in to Bloomfield Road after the dross that we've had in the last couple of years and so let's see what Jarrett Rivers can do in a Blackpool shirt. He is only 21 years old and was the Northern Premier League Young Player of the Year. He's scored 12 goals in 51 appearances and scored the stunner below against Hartlepool in the FA Cup.
The winger will join Blackpool on July 1st with Lee Clark quoted on the official site as saying ""I've had personal success in the past taking players from non league, having signed Lee Novak while at Huddersfield and Matt Green at Birmingham City. Jarrett's got a good football upbringing from his days as a youngster at Middlesbrough and he's an exciting player who makes and scores goals. He's been one of the outstanding players in a successful season for Blyth Spartans, starring in their FA Cup run and play-off push. His efforts this season have seen him rewarded with a Young Player of the Year award and a call-up to the England C team."

Agree with Green08 .. and at least he knows where the goal is and shoots at it unlike most of our squad last season!

What if we are unable to field 11 players bye the time the friendly takes place? Will he return to Blyth Spartans for free?

The problem with the Oyston's being in charge of this club is that every signing is seen as cynical, weakening and designed to get the club relegated! Anyone remember a certain Brett Ormerod or Gary Taylor-Fletcher - both of whom plied their trade in non-league before getting to the Premier League. I actually prefer a player who's been in the lower reaches, has no grand ideas about flashy cars and being pampered. Will this lad be any worse than John Lundstram who was apparently 'the next big thing'? I somehow doubt it. Good luck to him.

Thoughts from the Blyth fans: Definitely good enough for League One, but not on your dodgy pitch. Very exciting player, tireless, runs at players in a way you don't often see in the modern game. Scores and makes goals and is always a good 'out' option. Small in stature and sad to say he might have to get a bit more cynical but he's tough and he'll get stronger with pro training. Give him time and he'll do well. Really great attitude and deserves his chance. Hope you have a decent season next year.

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Southampton Polls |
