Inter Milan Defender Could Be Heading For St Mary's
Thursday, 25th May 2017 13:34

Italian football media outlet Calcio Mercato have linked Southampton with a move for an Inter Milan central defender this summer.

Saints are being linked with a move for Andrea Ranocchia of Inter Milan this summer, the defender who played for Inter at St Mary's in the Europa League this season spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Hull City, however he is not interested in making the move permanent and has headed back to his parent club.

However he has accepted that he has no future at the San Siro and would be attracted to a move back to the Premier League with his contract being up this summer.

That could be attractive to Saints who would be able to land the 29 year old on a free transfer and he would add experience to the defence having played extensively in Serie A as well as winning 21 caps for Italy.

Calcio Mercato are intimating that Saints are showing interest and with no other club yet to make a move could sign him up before he gets on the radar of other teams.

Guaranteed to be plenty of this sort of rumour, looks useful, but only if it's in addition to VVD, not instead of.

He seems to have decent pedigree and is a bargain. But signing a player who was part of the defence that conceded more goals than any other team last season is hardly a statement. I thought Harry Maguire was the Hull defender that everyone was raving about?

Assuming that VvD stays then this kind of signing would indicate that the clubs thinks that either Yoshida or Stephens can make the step up and establish themselves as a first choice CB next season.
