You Can't Buy A Ferrari With Fiat Money ! Saints Owner Tells Trabzonspor
Monday, 22nd Jul 2024 15:47

Southampton clearly feel that Tall Paul Onuachu is not part of their plans, Turkish club Trabzonspor after taking him on for a successful loan season, would like him back, so where is the problem ?

The Onuachu saga has been going on for the best part of three months now, before the season in Turkey had ended, Trabzonspor were banging on Saints door wanting to buy the striker, but the problem was they were offering a pittance for a striker who is still worth around £12 million despite his disastrous spell at St Mary's.

Saints paid around £16 million for the striker and although they are prepared to take a loss to get him off the books, they are not prepared to give him away for a pittance.

This seems to have frustrated Trabzonspor who appear to be pulling out all the stops to get Southampton to capitulate, they have been full on in the media saying how they are going to buy him, they have clearly courted the player, who has stated his desire is to return on a permanent basis, but the Turks are not making sensible offers.

Southampton co owner Rasmus Ankersen has now hit the nail on the head in a quote as reported by africanfootball.com he had this to say on NTVspor.

“My phone rings every day when people want to talk about Onuachu. But if you want to buy a Ferrari, you cannot come up with Fiat money,”

The message is clear, Trabzonspor are talking the talk, but they are not walking the walk, if they want Onuachu then they have to get realistic, they can get a bargain, but they are not getting a gift.

In the meantime Onuachu has had to report back for training at Southampton with his future up in the air, Trabzonspor might find themselves missing out on their man, there is rumour of interest from the Saudi Arabian League and as we all know they are not short of money there.

Ankersen didn't mince his words, perhaps insinuating he has had enough of Trabzonspor and their meagre offers, it may come a time when he might put his foot down and play hard ball and tell the player he had better find a new destination to favour as Trabzonspor won't be dealt with.

Is this any different to us offering below market value for players? I heard we were trying to get £10m plus Downes in exchange for our RB who has a year left on his contract. This seemed rather hopeful to me as I don’t believe we will get £25-28 for KWP unless there’s a big auction.
I hope we don’t mess around too much with our targets and miss them, particularly the lad from Celtic who sounds like the real deal.

There is offering below market value and there is taking the ****, KWP is probably worth between £20-25 Million, he is 27 and at the peak of his career, Flynn Downes is worth about £12 million, Pierre Emile Hojbjerg is just about to go for £17 million yes he is older but far more experienced.

Downes as much as we love him down here has played just 21 Premier League games mainly as sub totalling 743 minutes, he is not proven at Premier League level, whereas KWP is.

So £10 million plus Downes was not far off the mark for KWP

No one ever knows the full story and whole truth about transfers and velues of players. But if we dont acquire some proven and future talent for scoring goals pretty soon, we are going to be right back in the Championship, where to be honest the curent squad and manager belongs. If the manager doesn't rate Onuachu, then for goodness sake move him on, or pay someone to take him away! Why did we pay all that money for him in the first place, dont play him, and then say he's worth a fortune! At the moment the forward, those that can stand up, are not going to frighten anyone in the Premier League.

Ingratiate Paul Onuachu into the squad rather than trying to sell at a price we're not going to get. We'll need as many options as possible in the premiership as Russ ball isn't going to work with the better defenders and forwards in the top flight. The big man will give us an option and make us less predictable. He didn't really get a chance and came into a club in crisis so clean slate time.
