Southampton Defender Linked With Loan Move To Turkey
Sunday, 26th Jun 2022 21:20

He has not yet completed 12 months at St Mary's, but if media reports in Turkey are to be believed, Saints brazilian central defender Lyanco could be spending next season away from the club.

Turkish media outlet Yeni Asir have reported that Lyanco could be set to make a loan switch from Southampton to TFF First League side, Goztepe, claiming the transfer could be completed in the next week.

Goztepe might sound a familiar name to Saints supporters, the reason being it has recently been linked to Rasmus Ankersen and Sport Republic who have been said to be in talks to buy the club as well as French team Valenciennes.

Lyanco had a mixed season at St Mary's, but in the main he let no one down and had some decent performances, he was certainly not the worst to play in the centre of defence for the club.

Yeni Asir also go on to claim that he won't be the only player to join Goztepe, Mateusz Lis is also “very close” to joining the Turkish club if they are to be believed.

I do take all these press stories with handfuls of salt, but…
It certainly does seem that, even if only a few of them are true, then the moneyball method of selection is having a profound effect on who stays. (And of course on who comes in).
Which makes me wonder whether messrs Stephens and McCarthy would have been given new contracts had Sport Republic moved in earlier because I cannot believe their black box stats are average at best. In other words it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if they were amongst the names who are shipped out on loan in the next few weeks, or at the very least remain firmly on the subs bench for most of next season.

We had a pathetic second half of last season because we were shipping hat fulls of goals and couldn’t put the ball in at the other end for love nor money.

With less than six weeks to go before the first game of a new season we appear to have done nothing constructive to address either problem, other than signing a goal keeper who last season played for Portsmouth and a rookie centre half from Germany.

I’m beginning to think that much like Goa, our new owners are masters of the art of presentation over substance.

I guess Salisu will be the next to go then, it appears as though Bednarek and Lyanco have already said that they're not willing to play on the same pitch as Stephens and McCarthy next season.

If true it shows what a poor signing he was!
You only loan out 25 year olds, you can't shift any other way!
