Southampton Looking To Extend Tonda Eckert's Contract
Tuesday, 27th Oct 2026 09:17

Reports on the continent are saying that there is plenty of interest from club's in Germany & Austria in Tonda Eckert, so it is not surprising that they are also claiming that the club is keen to get him to sign a new deal.

sportwitness.co.uk are referencing Skysportaustria.at in reporting interest in Tonda Eckert.

They say

"The former Red Bull Salzburg manager’s work in England has led to ‘significant increase in interest’ and there is ‘strong interest’ from England and Italy.

"Several unnamed Premier League sides are keen while clubs from Serie A are also keen. He was the Genoa assistant manager between 2022 and 2025 and speaks Italian fluently.

"Tonda Eckert’s contract expires in 2027, and this clearly favours his suitors. The English club want to extend his contract to fend off his suitors, and the report adds the manager is also open to signing an extension.

"It’ll now be down to two parties to sort out and finalise the details of the agreement for him to continue at Southampton beyond this season.

"Southampton would hope to secure the coach’s renewal soon so that there’s no threat of losing Eckert in the coming months. "

That comes after German clubs VfB Stuttgart & Borussia Mönchengladbach were said to be monitoring the situation during the summer should Eckert be banned in England.

The good news for Southampton supporters is that the report states that the club is keen to tie him up to a new deal and that they are also saying that Eckert himself is open to staying, so that being the case hopefully this is something that may happen soon.

Tonda Eckert has been a revelation at Southampton Football Club since taking charge of his first game at QPR on November 5th last year, now that the weight has been taken off the shoulders of both Eckert himself and the club, it would be nice to see him tied to a long term deal.

For once when I write an article i don't think that there will be Saints fan disagreeing with me on this one.

I'm certainly not going to disagree with you Nick but it's only a few months back when posters were stating that, following the Middlesbrough faux outrage, he should be sacked immediately.

Now that the trial by social media has moved on to find another hapless victim I certainly hope that Tonda will sign a new contract very soon.

I have my doubts as to whether Tonda wants a new contract. He has a wife and a young child who had to be taken back to their home country because of the serious threats made in the aftermath last seasons trial by media.Put yourself in her position.Would you want to return to a country where you had been threatened in that way?If his family don't come niether will he
