Going back a few years under Ian Evans he was long ball and we didn't like it and again under Cork perhaps. Was Andy Robinson playing under our long ball Jacket era!! We've certainly had our fair share of target men Alsop , Torpey, Conner and McFarlane but we didn't just lump it for the sake of it. The purest form of long ball i can remember Palace and Pullis in a one all draw at the Lib a constant barrage of long balls truly awful to watch. [Post edited 21 May 2018 19:45]

The outstanding idea with that kind of Swansea football was that we wanted a kind of player like Dyer, Routledge and Britton, small, gifted players, which was leftovers in the PL, Championship and extremely cheap in the La Liga. [Post edited 21 May 2018 20:08]

Very true, copied by Bournemouth and Brighton and until recently Southampton.
Us and Southampton stopped doing it, Bournemouth and Brighton have kept it going.

The 'Swansea way' was just to try and control the game and have a go at teams no matter how good they were and how poor we were (On paper).
Some of the time it worked. Other times it failed and we got absolutely battered.
I would do anything to go back to that rather than the 10 men on the edge of the 18 yard box desperately keeping our shape and keeping things tight hoping for a set piece that we might nick a goal from at some point if we're lucky. |  |

It's not a myth it's how we got promoted from League 1 and the Championship.
Limited budget but we were different to most sides.
It also served us well for the first 3 or 4 seasons in the PL.
No coincidence we started our downward spiral as the style changed. |

We were certainly more direct than we were once Martinez took over, but as you say, the idea that we were purely route one merchants before is nonsense.
Some of the most exciting, goal laden football we've played since 2003 was during our first season back in League One. Bristol City 7-1, Chesterfield 5-1 and 4-0, Walsall 5-2. We scored three goals or more eleven times that campaign in all competitions. |  |

The current attempts to replicate this under Potter is quite frankly woeful. We just pass it sideways whilst the opposition just wait for us to eventually lump it down the wing as we don't have the players and manager capable of training the players to effectively play that way. |  |

We don’t even attempt to play that way under Potter. Quite rightly because we probably don’t have the players for it.,
We look to counter quickly and in numbers, not drag the opposition all over the pitch until they eventually leave a gap to exploit. It’s not Clement ball and when it comes off we put some decent moves together. It’s pretty naive to assume we’re trying to replicate that Swanselona period though. | | | |
