Here we are - day whatever since the virus outbreak began in the UK - and as of today (Thurs 26th), Hampshire still has the highest number of cases outside of London. There are 33 cases in Portsmouth & 28 in Southampton.
What I want to know is... why is this? When you think of densely populated counties like Essex, Surrey, even the heavily populated counties in the Midlands or the big city counties up North - Lancashire, West Yorkshire, etc - does anyone know why Hampshire has the highest number?

I'd have said Surrey was more affluent than Hampshire Dirk... as well as being a London over-spill for people working in London. Surrey has a population of 1.9 million as opposed to 1.3 in Hampshire. | |

What a superb question. My guess is that most of the early cases were in London, and as it is by far the largest city in the UK. My next guess would be that if you follow the districts in London with the most infected cases you can follow the route in and out of London.
The 5 districts with the most cases in London are Southwark, Lambeth, Wandsworth Brent and Westminster (in that order). Trains and buses are the most likely places to have passed this virus in early doors. The busiest train stations are Waterloo (Lambeth), and Victoria (Westminster)
The biggest counties on those lines are Hampshire 1.9mill, Surrey 1.2m, West Sussex , Berkshire 0.9
The 2 biggest cities on these lines are Southampton and Portsmouth (in that order). The 2 biggest conurbations on those lines are Portsmouth and Southampton (in that order).
People from Hampshire are more friendly than people from Surrey, and people from
South Hampshire are more friendly than people from North Hampshire. People from Soton have more of a worzel friendliness than Pompey which explains the near parity in numbers considering Soton has a smaller conurbation.
It’s a bit like the Hampshire’s Greatest Footballers thread really, the virus like football skill is passed on to those nearest and dearest to you, which kind of explains why there are a greater number of skilful footballers from the Portsmouth are than the Soton area. ie the football skill levels of Portsmouth people has been passed on since the late 1920's. That seems quite high. My nearest big city is Leeds, 95 cases out of a 789k population. The council where I love has 75 out of a 614k population. |  |

Dirk the Worzel is letting his worzelness interfere with his thought processes. Just a few days ago, there were only a few less cases in Soton than Portsmouth.
Most of the ‘cases’ are listed as the patient has been to hospital. Haslar has closed down and Fareham is a small private hospital, so the 2 public hospitals in the greater Portsmouth area are in Portsmouth you enormous buffoon. Oh, and there is a BUPA hospital in Portsmouth, called the Spire BUPA Portsmouth hospital, but it’s actually in Havant. 
Any hospitals in Eastleigh or Bishopstoke?, oh yes there’s a small private hospital called Nuffield Health Wessex hospital in Eastleigh in addition to the small BUPA hospital in Shirley.
So the vast majority of these virus cases in the wider P & S areas will take their toll in public hospitals bang in the centre of Soton and Portsmouth.
Why is there now a wider margin between the 2 areas, well just maybe it’s because the P urban area is some 150k larger than the S urban area. It’s not hard to understand if you can just disentangle your worzel biased brain.
