This morning when doing the media rounds, the line was that for every 1 day we spend in normality over xmas, it will need to be paid back with 2 days of harsh lockdown

by the end of the working day, that 2 day harsh lockdown has shifted to 5 days.

this is literally being made up as we go.


You only have to see the profiles of cases and deaths to see that the tail of decreases takes far more than twice the rate of ascent. It is good to check ,multiple sources in the media to get a balanced view (as you obviously have been doing to spot the discrepancy). I'm not sure about your conclusion that they are making it up as they go along though.

No, infection rate was falling before lockdown started. It has more to do with changing behavioural patterns, virus surges people get nervous and distance more and isolate more.
This is all about control.

Sorry, it's a graph showing all deaths from respiratory illnesses in the last ten years.
This includes Flu, Pneumonia and Covid.
