Sean Connery RIP 12:42 - Oct 31 with 990 viewsSadoldgit

Blimey, another one bites the dust. Still 90 is a good innings and he will always be James Bond. Made a whole career using his Scottish accent and won an Oscar for using it playing an Irishman! A proper legend. RIP

There was a documentary about him the other day and they made that exact point. Directors and producers signed him up because he was who he was and he was pure box office gold. Just as people went to see a John Wayne film, people went to see Sean Connery and didn’t give a stuff about his accent. You don’t get movie stars like that anymore. I wouldn’t cross the road to see a Tom Cruise movie unless there was something other than Tom Cruise to draw my interest. He was perfectly cast as James Bond and that set him up for life.

We were typing at the same time! I agree about the Roger Moore films being more entertaining. They were certainly more light hearted, but Connery was Bond. Thunder all will always be my favourite Bond film though, followed closely by Goldfinger. Who doesn’t like Pussy Galore 😉

In his own words (back in ‘65 for Playboy magazine) it was ok to hit a woman with an open hand if she was a bitch [or otherwise wasn’t what he wanted] and if it was a last resort and there had been plenty of warning.........oh, that’s ok then Sean.

His first wife made ‘claims’ he assaulted her. Connery denied it.

Made a fortune failing to act. Just lumping around as himself.

R.I.P. The Man Who Would Be King.

And what a brilliant film that was. The Name of the Rose wasn't bad either.

Connery was great at bringing literary characters to life on screen, whether it be from the works of Rudyard Kipling, Umberto Eco or even Ian Fleming.
