Grealish unsteady on his feet again 11:25 - Dec 15 with 1302 viewsdirk_doone

"Jack Grealish stunk of alcohol and was slurring his words after he crashed his Range Rover, a witness said. The court also heard that the England and Aston Villa footballer was unsteady on his feet and was wearing mis-matching slippers."

I really wonder if he is going to follow in the footsteps of Gascoigne?

He got a 9 month driving ban and an £82.5k fine

He was clearly drunk, so should have got a far greater ban.

Also the fine, although not up there with that one that was originally issued to Lemina, seems a little light, considering his weekly wage and the fact that he committed one of the 'incidents' whilst the country was supposed to be under lockdown.

Maybe I’m being naive but if I was a top athlete I’d do everything I could to stay fit and that would mean not drinking. Failing that, with the money footballers are on, how hard would it be to arrange a driver?

Oh, I forgot, some of them are pig-shit thick egomaniacs.

To be fair, they are just young men with far too much time and money on their hands. Grealish is by no means the first: Greaves, Best, Baxter, Bowles, Gascoigne, Adams, Merson, Fowler, Kluivert, Garrincha, Maradona etc

A couple of times I've seen Grealish play when he's had that unnatural alcoholic sweat at the beginning of a game, I've wondered whether he is just lurching from one binge drinking session to another. In the 60s and 70s large numbers of professional footballers were heavy drinkers and smokers. It was the norm at many clubs to drink all afternoon after their morning training sessions and some continued that into the night.

The problem comes when you get so drunk that you get behind the wheel of a car and kill someone like Kluivert did.

I accept that was common in the past, but with modern methods, personal trainers, dieticians and psychologists etc assumed things had improved since the ‘good old days’...

Even these days snooker players go to the gym. I can’t imagine why a footballer who relies on fitness would be hammering the drink. It simply gives the opposition a small advantage as even if it only affects him slightly he won’t be as good as he could be. These days so many games are won by fine margins, hence the emphasis on diet and psychology. So to waste all those marginal increases that no doubt Villa do for Grealish and for him to go out on the lash is really wasting his opportunity.

Witnesses in the court have confirmed Jack Grealish was so shocked when he thought the judge had said he was banned from ‘Diving’ for 9 months that he fell on the floor.

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.

Yes, but, to be fair, they probably had them when they were drunk or off their heads on drugs.

When I was young, I played 5 (or 11) a side and squash every day, smoked 20-30 tabs and drank at least 6 pints every day (often a couple at lunch time). I was as fit as a butchers dog and could have worked and played harder. I once drank 11 pints at a Saturday night disco, and turned out for an 11 a side game next morning where the team averaged 10 pints per head. That all changed when I was about 26-27 years old, same as I didn't start getting hangovers until I was about 22. You can do so much more when you are young.
