Salisu Update For Everyone !!
at 16:30 4 Dec 2020

Here we go then, from the Official Site. Could just be another fob off though !! :-)

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl has revealed summer signing Mohammed Salisu could be in contention to feature in a matchday squad for the first time when Saints head to Brighton on Monday night.

The 21-year-old centre-back signed from Real Valladolid in August, but has had to be patient for his first appearance, as he built his fitness up after injury and worked with his new team.

While there was no guarantee from Hasenhüttl that he would be involved, he explained Salisu had made good progress and could be considered alongside the potential returns of Danny Ings and Nathan Redmond.

"Ingsy and Reddy are starting to train now and this week will be part of the sessions and then we will have a look how competitive they are. Sali is also a step further forward in his development, so we have a few more alternatives in the future and this is good," said Hasenhüttl.

"All of these players it is possible they are in the squad on Monday. We will have a look for whom it is possible and for whom it is too early.

"Now is the busiest time of the year, and in the beginning of this time we seem to have everybody back and fit in the team and we need everybody now, this is for sure, because now becomes a busy time."

January Departures ?
at 13:55 4 Dec 2020

With the Window looming, I wonder if any of the following players will be leaving us temporarily of for good next month ?

Hoedt - no idea how he is doing in Italy. I doubt he will be bought next month and will probably leave us for free in the summer

Lemina - doesn't appear to have done enough to make Fulham want to buy him yet. Not sure how long he has left on his contract.

Sims - Seems to be doing well with assists at Doncaster. Perhaps they will try to buy him next month.

Long - not really given much more than 5 mins at the end of games these days and the youngsters are coming through, so perhaps best if he finds another club to move to on loan or permanently.

Valery - do we keep him as RB back up or loan him out ?

Slattery - No real chance to break back into the first team and seems content to languish in the B Team. Sell or Loan ?

Smallbone - coming back from injury and now in the B Team, so perhaps a loan would do him more good than being a B player or bench man.

McQueen - Will see out his contract that ends in 6 months, as apparently he is still injured - sadly the screws fitted during his ACL operation have become infected, so he is virtually back to square one !!
Snippets From The Press Conferences For Sunday v Man Utd
at 14:36 27 Nov 2020

Now here is Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, who kicks off talking about the progression of his side: "We have seen some good progress in our game in the last few weeks against some tough teams and we showed that we could compete in those games.

"Every week we are doing some things better. They are a good team and every team with such quality is tough to win against. We have to find solutions and not be scared about their quality.

"If we get a chance we need to take it and grab it with both hands."

Now time for some positive injury updates from Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl: "Theo [Walcott] is okay [he has a broken bone in his wrist].

"He is a bit of pain but it is not a problem for the weekend. Danny is back in training and might be an option for the Brighton game.

"It was only a light surgery and it looks good."

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl now talks about media reports linking him to the Manchester United manager's job: "It is not really something I listen to . I find myself listening to the radio when they talk about football it is interesting to hear. My only interest is what happens at this club.

"I signed a long-term contract, the way we are improving this club gives me so much joy. I think there is something special growing here."

Man Utd

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says midfielder Paul Pogba remains unavailable for his side's trip to the south coast.

"Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba weren’t on the grass, so they are very unlikely for weekend," said Solskjaer.

"Luke Shaw just started rehab. Jesse Lingard is back with the group after isolating and Phil Jones still out until after Christmas."
Saints Black Friday Deals !!
at 11:54 27 Nov 2020

Wow !!

Got an email from Saints today, urging me to purchase a full kit for £49 !!

This includes the socks, shorts and the shirt with the LD Sports sponsorship logo on the front !!

My daughter wants a shirt for Xmas, but you still have to buy the ones with the up to date sponsor on pre-order and hope they arrive in time !!

What a shambles with the shirts AGAIN !! I know this was a little out of their control with the change of sponsors etc, but they have take an inexcusably long time to procure the new shirts and here's the best bit, they won't even be made by Under Armour !! You couldn't make it up !!
Would You Be Part Of The 2K In St Marys
at 12:25 26 Nov 2020

So we will be allowed a paltry 2,000 fans for a game - which is of course subject to change, but would you want to go the game ?

We have the following fixtures coming up

12th Dec - Sheff Utd
19th Dec - Man City
28th Dec - West Ham

Not sure how they will do it, I presume by lottery, but I elected on my ST questionnaire ages ago, to go to games once they allowed (some) fans back in.

Obviously the atmosphere won't be great and it would be kind of spooky watching a Prem game in front of 2k fans, but I would definitely be up for going - and obviously adhering to all the safety precautions.

Anyone else ?

JWP Withdeawn From England Squad
at 11:02 10 Nov 2020

Saints have withdrawn JWP from the England squad for the coming round of games / friendlies, due to a tight hamstring.

It is a precautionary measure and hopefully he can use the international break to get back to full fitness (and form) in time for out next game away to Wolves.

The same sentiment goes for Bertrand.

Anyone have an Ingsy update ?
FA Cup
at 20:47 9 Nov 2020

Looks like there could be a (small) chance of us playing Pompey in the FA Cup this season.

They got drawn at home to the newly promoted tier 5 side, Kings Lynn in the 2nd round.
Should they progress, it will still be a long shot odds wise, but you never know !!

It would be good to play them in a cup again, as let's face it, it won't be happening in the league anytime soon.

Potetially 5 Out For Friday's Game
at 11:35 4 Nov 2020

Latest statement concerning injuries from the Official Site

Southampton are likely to be without a number of regular first-team starters ahead of Friday night's meeting with Newcastle United at St Mary's, including influential striker Danny Ings.

The manager confirmed that the damage suffered to Saints' top scorer was significant enough to warrant a "small surgery", but importantly the injury wasn't a reoccurrence of an old knee problem, which could have seen him out for a longer period.

As it stands, Ings is looking at a 4-6 week period on the sidelines, while there are also concerns over Ryan Bertrand (hamstring), Jan Bednarek (concussion) and Ibrahima Diallo (dead leg), following a fierce meeting with Aston Villa a week ago.

Ralph Hasenhüttl began by asserting: "We have a lot of injury concerns at the moment. The last game was a tough one. Also sometimes beyond the edge, in terms of what is okay for me. A few brutal tackles that were tough to get a handle on.

"We have payed a high price for that. It causes me a real headache to be honest, because five players have issues now."

Speaking specifically about individual player concerns, he added: "Jan Bednarek may train today, it was a horrible crash on the ground. Ryan Bertrand is likely to be out for the weekend. Diallo has a dead leg from a hard kick.

"The worst thing is maybe Danny Ings. We said after the game that we hoped it wasn't bad.

"It could have been much worse, but at the moment he's out for maybe 4-6 weeks. He'll have a small surgery tomorrow. He's definitely out for now. It's a small surgery but a necessary one."

Add to that list - Smallbone (injured), Obafemi (if still banned) and maybe Salisu if he still isn't ready yet !!
