Southampton At Liverpool The Verdict
Ralph - WTF were you playing at ? Experimenting at Anfield of all places.
Wrong Team, Tactics and dare I say Wrong Manager ?
Too many were off their game and there is nowhere to hide or be carried at Anfield.
If ever there was a case to play a right footed player at left back, then this was the time - Salah usually cuts in onto his left foot. What did we do ? Drop KWP !!
Too much pressure and expectation on Livramento - he is 18 and played a dozen top flight games FFS. Cut him some slack - he has still got a lot to learn and hopefully the Anfield experience will help him.
On to Leicester then, who scored 4 yesterday. Let's hope our keeper does better than that Watford keeper. Hopefully we will have a few back from injury, as we need a shake up for sure. Diallo fully fit, S Armstrong, even perhaps Stephens and Redmond !! :-)
Hopefully Leicester will do us a favour and start Vest and Bert, but I don't even know if they make the bench/squad for them these days.
Southampton May Try To Land Championship Star In January
Back to the old goalkeeper debate.
Neither of our current keepers are good enough, so ideally we would get a new first choice in and keep 1 of FF or AM as back-up.
Johnstone should be that new first choice keeper and buying him in the Jan window makes sense, as he will have only 6 months left on his contract at that stage.
FF has the same amount of months left. Perhaps he would like to be sold to WBA in a swap deal, so that he gets 1st team football - or is at least loaned to them to put himself in the shop window. (Saints won't renew his contract - especially at the wages he is rumoured to be on).
Either way, we will need a new keeper in the summer, so why not act in Jan, where there seems to be a perfect opportunity to get in some quality.
Can Jack Stephens Be The Come Back Kid Again for Southampton
Because of his injury, he has understandably now dropped down to 4th choice. He will need to put in a few good performances and prove his fitness with the B team before he makes the first team bench, but of course, he is capable. He will no doubt get his chance over the busy December to mid-January period, especially as the yellow cards mount up, as well as the number of games we have to play.
Others grabbed their chances when they got opportunities in his absence, so it is up to Jack to do the same when he gets his.
Armando Broja Doubtful For Visit Of Aston Villa
Didn't people make the same assumption about Stu Armstrong against Watford. He wasn't in the training photos, so he was injured or had fallen out with the manager again - only for him to come off the bench and play 20 odd mins.
Let's see what team is announced an hour before kick off !!
Villa Manager Claims Danny Ings Will Miss The Trip To Southampton
I read conflicting stories concerning his absence this week. One said it was a hamstring injury. The other said it was Covid related - but didn't say if he had it (again) or was isolating.
I was wondering if the FA would bother to look at that Hause elbow to the jaw incident from Sunday, which looked more of an assault than a tackle and definitely should have been a straight red.
I expect that if they do, it will be after our game, as they are already a defender or 2 down. Imagine if it was one of our defenders !!
Southampton At Watford The Verdict
You can tell we won at the weekend, due to all the posts on here !!
As others have already said, it was a great performance and with a clinical striker, we could and should have been 4 up at the break. Adam Arm should have had a hat trick, Che - that header !! But great that we carved them apart at will and created so much. You can see why Liverpool scored 5 against them 2 weeks back.
Some excellent performances all over. Just a shame that we couldn't have put the game to bed early and enjoyed the last 10-15 mins.
The fans were immense. I have had a few good trips to Watford in the past, but at this one, we were louder and sang more. Obviously the performance and goal helped lift us, as it did in the 2nd half v Chelsea. So let's hope this continues at SMS on Friday night.
Broja Out For Saints Trip To Watford
......and to think many were slagging RH off for subbing Broja - and taking away our only chance of beating Burnley. Well there's your reason. Apologies will be in the post no doubt.
Two Big Decisions For Ralph Hasenhuttl Ahead Of The Trip To Watford
He has got far more than 2 big decisions to make for Watford.
Recall JWP or not
Start Stu Armstrong or not
Drop Walcott / Redmond etc
Recall Adams / A Armstrong
We made 9 changes last night, so many have been rested and others have impressed, so I am expecting a performance. Let's hope we face the Watford that played Liverpool, rather than the one that played Everton.
Southampton V Burnley The Verdict
Livramento is clearly a right sided player, yet he gets called a left back twice in this piece.
Lets face it, it was a fair result in the end. We could and should have been 3-1 up at the break and it would have been a different game, but again we failed to take our chances. We then switched off at the back to allow Burnley to draw level - Bed and AMcC both caught napping.
After that it was Burnley who had the best chances to win it. We huffed and puffed and passed it predictably round the edge of their area and the half way line but only had a poor, wayward Adams header to show for it.
What RH should have learnt, but probably hasn't, is that Walcott is only worth a place on the bench at best. He offers little, fails to make runs or give options and should have been off at half time. Djenepo is the same - It was like playing most of the game with 10 men against Leeds. We need S Armstrong to start and perhaps play Ely on the left, or perhaps Tella.
We need to work on our distribution from the back. This includes the whole defence, keeper and holding mids. The number of times we gave the ball away from what should have been a simple pass, was quite remarkable. Not only does it rile the crowd, but creates unnecessary pressure on the whole team.
We all knew how Burnley would play - little niggling fouls, time wasting, frustrating the opposition, but why don't the officials do anything about this. Pope got told hurry his goal kicks at least 4 times, so should have been booked on the 2nd or 3rd time. Every time they went for a header there was a little nudge on the player first - Wood and Tarkowski are experts at this, yet when Salisu does it, it is a foul.
We are our own worst enemies. Not clinical enough up top and present the opposition with too many chances at the back - usually because of errors.
I'm hoping a few fringe players will make a name for themselves tomorrow night and start pushing for a first team start, but then we all know how RH has his favourites, so I doubt it will make any difference come Watford away on Saturday.
Southampton At Newcastle United The Preview
Keep it simple and cut out the errors - especially at GK and in defence. We have a habit of gifting teams chances and last season we were punished regularly.
We look to have more options out wide and up front now, so hopefully RH can see what is happening and change things accordingly - and not with 10 mins left.
Keep the locals quiet, nick an early goal and go for it, don't try to sit back for the rest of the game. We tried and failed that so many times already !!
Derisory Bid Shows Why Aston Villa Are Not the Club For James Ward Prowse
A whole piece based on what is only rumoured to be a club's first offer for our player. Perhaps they were hoping Les Reed was still here !!:-)
Villa are just testing the water, like they probably did when first signing Buendia and like we will probably do, should we bid for (the allegedly £25m rated) Armstrong.
Pompey Target Josh Sims !
The rumour was that Saints were paying him a staggering £18k a week !!
Good luck to him if he thinks he will still be able to command that sort of wage in League 1 and I very much doubt the Skates would pay anywhere near that, as they have to give the old girl another spray tan and manicure that could cost up to £10m !!
Should Southampton Target Bournemouth In The Transfer Market This Summer !
When I first heard of him, I thought his name was Dan Juma !! :-)
Anyway, he looks decent enough, but has had limited experience and is apparently a bit of a late developer, so who knows, perhaps he will get better and better.
I would expect him to be linked with clubs above us in the league as well, plus I have seen that Brooks and Billings have also been linked with top half Prem teams.
It would make sense to try and do business with them if it means we can offload Shane Long as part of any deal. He still has another year left on his large contract with us.
Danjuma would add much needed competition for wide positions in our squad, because lets face it, Redmond if fit, tends to get picked regardless, Minamino was only ok in a few games, Djenepo has been poor and Walcott has been inconsistent and injured.
Tella looks decent enough though, but is perhaps vying for a striker role and Armstrong is great - but needs to be wide right now that Romeu is back.
Brooks will probably command a much higher fee of around £20m+.
David Moyes West Ham Turnaround Can Give Hope For Southampton Supporters
We all thought this season was going to be our year - and it was until the turn of the year. The trouble is WHU picked up and we nosedived !!
Also their recruitment has been excellent for a change, getting in Soucek, Coufal, Benrahma and Dawson.
We got Salisu who didn't play for more than half the season, Diallo who was too young to be a regular starter and then we topped up with Walcott who was good, then injured, the poor, and Minamino who started well but is lightweight and fell out of form.
Southampton At West Ham United The Verdict
It wasn't that long ago that you were talking of taking games in groups of 3 and aiming to get 5 points from these groups. Now 15th is about right ? That is massively moving the goalposts !!
Our defence (including Keeper) really is the gift that keeps on giving (2nd worst, away from home in the league !!), so much so that teams just have to wait for us to gift them chances, but it is also our failure to take chances (to go ahead and to kill games off) that have cost us dearly this season.
All our hard work in the first half of the season has been undone by a combination of injuries (we beat Liverpool with 6 out though), poor tactics, 'focusing on the cup' only to fail to turn up in the semi, poor substitutions, picking the same under-performing players every week, a mistake ridden defence and abysmal finishing.
Wholesale changes are required this summer. Need to get rid of more than 12 players who won't ever feature for the 1st XI. Hesketh is already on his way.......
We don't have the money, but we need a 1st choice Keeper, LB, CB, Striker and 2 x Wide men upgrades.
I'm fairly sure Wolves have a smaller ground than us - but would need to check !! :-)
TV Channel For Saints Final Game Of The Season At West Ham Confirmed
Since beating WHU 3-0 away at their then brand new stadium, our record against them reads:
No win for us in our last 6 meetings.
I hope we can break the mould this weekend.
Can't help but think that Moyes knows how to play against us though !!
Southampton V Leeds United The Preview
0-0 it is then !! :-)
Will be there, so obviously hoping for us to win a thriller and for the boys to put on a top display for the fans !!
Leeds United Game Crucial To Southampton Final Premier League Position
The players owe us a performance tomorrow in front of the fans, for the complete and utter capitulation in the 2nd half of the game at Elland Road. Looking at the way they attacked Burnley at the weekend, with power, pace and directness, I thought to myself, our wide players could certainly benefit from adopting some of their methods. With some fans present, I am somewhat optimistic !!
As for getting anything from the last game away to West Ham, I suspect we will get the same performance of the last 2 seasons - losing and conceding 3 goals - rather than the one before that where we won and scored 3.
