Leicester City Players Suspended Due To Covid 19 Breach
Time for the FA to investigate further and take the appropriate actions against those players who have breached the FA conduct rules. Fine them all and issue 3 of 4 match bans to all - including Barnes (if he was there) from when he is fit to play again !!
Failure for them to take any further action will not only show them up as spineless, but basically tell every other player that they can get away with breaking the rules simply by apologising !!
Fulham Defeat Eases Pressure On Southampton
Although I love an away day at Fulham, I simply do not want them to stay up.
They regularly field a starting line up that includes 6 or 7 loan players.
It is quite ridiculous that they are allowed to do this (granted only 2 from other Prem teams) and bad for the club and its player development that every game, more than half the starting XI are loans.
Even if they stay up, and despite the wealth of their owners, I very much doubt they would buy more than 2 or 3 of their current loans (Lemina hopefully ?) and would once again get in another full quota of loans.
I don't agree with their strategy, so it's a big 'no thanks' for me.
Ward Prowse Out Of England V Poland Game With Injury
The game is actually on SUNDAY at 12 Noon !!
JWP would be a massive miss, but equally I guess we won't know the full state of fitness in our squad, until the likes of Armstrong, Adams, Vestergaard, Bednarek, Minamino and Djenepo all return from International Duty today/tomorrow.
Bournemouth Top Scorer Out For Saints FA Cup Tie
Our top scorer is also out !!
As are Minamino, Walcott, Romeu, Smallbone, Obafemi, McQueen etc.
Both teams have lots of injuries. It makes no difference.
It is a one off cup game and it is how those players perform on the day. Let's hope we have been putting the required work in on the training ground this week !!
Bournemouth Have Selection Crisis Ahead Of Southampton FA Cup Tie
The FA seem keen to throw the book at us for failing to control our team, after the handbags at Sheff Utd, but had they done their job and looked at the Bournemouth v Watford game, then I'm sure we would have been facing a team with even more suspensions. Their injury time brawl had pushing, pulling and punches being thrown by both teams, yet not a red card in sight.
It is what it is and we can only play what is put in front of us, so hopefully we can muster enough quality to progress to the Semis.
Southampton V Brighton The Verdict
Ralph gambled with the team at City to target a win against Brighton and failed big time !!
Never seen us look so pedestrian, un-iterested and not up for such an important game - so something is definitely wrong and that is down to Ralph.
The tactics were awful, same old predictable slow play, allowing the opposition to regroup quickly and defend against us in numbers. That then results in passing it back, sometimes all the way back !! Yawn.
Then we show no urgency chasing the game - I'm willing us to score 2 to win it, yet we are content to just pass it around in the hope that someone will take the responsibility and actually cross it or have a shot.
Then to top it all, Ralph make the subs, but we continue to play the same way - somehow expecting that the subs (who are on the bench because they are not good enough to start) will win it for us !! Complete Madness.
Bookies Invent New Bet For Southampton FC
If all the players and staff are in a bubble, then why are they not allowed to use all the recovery equipment ?
Surely they can get rotas set up to allow minimal numbers to use the facilities at any one time and even a restricted amount of use would have a big benefit ?
They should just loan some of the equipment to players, so that they can use it exclusively in their own homes.
Bookies Invent New Bet For Southampton FC
The clue is in the picture !! It was Danny Ings who limped off at Sheffield United. Djenepo actually came on in that game, as a sub in the 88th minute.
Djenepo did however get replaced at Half Time at Manchester City on Wednesday night - because of injury - over stretching for that chance he should have tucked away.
We continue to get more than our fair share of injuries - but hopefully all that will change for the last quarter of the season and we can get the likes of Walcott, Djenepo and Ings back and fit, to push up the league and progress in the FA Cup.
Southampton And Sheffield United Charged By FA For Failing To Control Their Players
If anything, Fleck should be charged with starting a riot !! :-)
It was nothing - if they want to throw the book at someone, ask them to look at the melee in injury time during the Bournemouth v Watford game - where lots of players were far more involved - fighting, pushing and pulling and throwing punches !!
Season Changing Weekend For Southampton
Honestly, it's got to the stage now, where I don't really care about the other teams. If X wins or X loses, then we can go up a place etc just doesn't interest me any more.
All we need to worry about is getting 3 wins as quickly as possible, then we can relax a bit and start playing some decent football in the remaining games.
All the early season hard work has been ruined with this awful run - which incidentally stretches back to the middle of December. I know there are plenty of excuses we can all use, but that seems to be the issue. We are in a blame culture society and our players are blaming the footballing gods, rather than putting a shift in to change things. It is about time we stood up to be counted and put in a performance for the club and us, the fans.
We will have a few players back and that will be the difference. Saints to win in 2-1 or 3-1. COYS !!
Ralph Gives Southampton Injury Boost For Sheffield United Clash
Why make the point about a Plan B ?
Surely if we are chasing the game, it makes sense to up the tempo, show more urgency, put more balls into the box, put Vest up front as a target man (especially against 9 men), try something different - instead of playing the same old slow predictable way, that is not only easy to defend against, but plays into the opposition's hands.
Even when we are chasing the games, we still pass it all the way back, instead of crossing it and seem content to keep the ball somewhere between our 18 yard box and the half way line - rather than actually penetrate the opposition's box.
At least try something different to get a goal and possibly something out of the game and if we concede, so what, we were losing anyway, but at least we tried to do something, rather than the same old predictable stuff.
Southampton At Everton The Verdict
Lets face it, for most of the game we were woeful. Our passing game was amiss, we couldn't control the ball, we frequently gave it away cheaply, often turned into trouble, had too many out of position, gave away silly free kicks and from them, defended like statues.
Yes we had a bit of possession and passed it around our box - half way line area, but that just played into Everton's hands, as the were already winning. As with most games of late when we have been behind, we just don't seem to have any urgency, or a will to drive forward and actually get into the opponent's box and try to set up a chance for our forwards. Instead we are content to get forward then pass it all the way back.
Regardless of whether JWP free kick was a cross or a shot, it does not detract from the fact that we created little. We upped it a bit once we switched Bed to CB and brought on Tella, but we failed to test their keeper, apart from a solitary Vest effort at the end where he should have stood up to kick it, rather than slide and slot it.
Everton won a canter apart from the last 10 mins. They even rested players because they have bigger games coming up soon.
Salisu needs to toughen up.
FF - attackers were scared of him and he did pretty well.
Arms - not a CM but again did well
Djenepo - don't think he knows what he is doing half the time and his attacking duties were thwarted by Bed needing permanent cover at RB.
Can't believe the ref bought all the DCL and Richarlison dives and as for Digne, he should have (again) seen red for that horror tackle on Djenepo.
I suppose it was not the worst defeat and hopefully we will have the likes of KWP and Diallo available for the Sheff Utd game, because we need more balance and shape to our side.
Southampton At Everton The Preview
Targett was never going to hang around waiting for Bert to retire and anyway, getting £16m for him was a far better than expected price.
Cedric - he announced early doors that he was leaving, so we could not have convinced him to stay regardless.
Reed - 3 years of loans at Norwich, Blackburn and Fulham suggested he was a fringe player at best with us, so we did well to get £8m for him.
We only really have a need for them now that we have so many injuries, otherwise Bert and KWP will always be picked in front of Targett and Cedric and JWP, Romeu and Diallo would also get picked in front of Reed.
Southampton At Everton The Preview
Richarlison, DCL, Sigurdsson, Iwobi, Gomes and James Rodriguez all queuing up to exploit our weakness at Right Back.
In Ralph We Trust !
Why look at the last 8 games ? If you look at the last 13 league games - a third of the season - we have alarmingly amassed just 7 points.
Ralph needs to forget about using the footballing gods being against us at the moment, as an excuse for poor results and really start motivating his team. This is also down to the Captain and the players themselves.
Early season performances and indeed the Liverpool game, have shown us what we are capable of, so it is now up to the manager and his playing staff to rediscover that form.
.....surely even we can manage 3 or 4 wins from our remaining 13 games and then we can focus on the FA Cup - provided we are still in it !! :-)
Government Plans For Return to Stadium's Mean Saints Fans Will Miss Out
Didn't expect to be allowed back in before the end of the season anyway, so doesn't really make any difference and a small token gesture would just be considered a bonus anyway.
Perhaps the Govt was fully aware of the fixture lists before they announced the return dates and chose them deliberately ?
Either way, it is progress and hopefully we can look forward to a more normal season with fans next season.
