Make no mistake this is a dark day and our kids and future generations will look back asking what on earth were some people thinking, if they were even thinking at all

Depends what's on the plate, doom and gloom from a certain side as above or we are where we are now and must look on the positive side as we can't go back on the other.

I've changed my way of thinking as was a def remainer at the time of the vote and still think there would have been plusses if we had stayed, but now reality has kicked in and we are out, the real experts (not those on here) seem to be saying we won't be doing too badly so I'd rather go with that

Basically, if those still whinging don't like it, go elsewhere

It will be interesting to see whether any other countries will be following in a few years time having seen how well (or not) we are doing

Grab the opportunity

I'm totally on your page Kingsland, I reluctantly voted remain because of the step into the unknown, but now we have to look at what trading positives we can move forward on. And already the so called 'toxic' border issues with NI/Eire and Gibraltar/Spain appear to have been sorted.

Now, quiet at the back of the class, we just beat Liverpool please ? !

By the end of January the NHS should be getting around £1.4 billion if the Brexit bus promises hold up. 350 million a week wasn't it ?

Ah the usual sh1te from somebody that thought a suggestion was a promise..... fool.

As for the 'no other nations will want to leave the EU' comments, I have friends in Sweden, Italy (many different cities), Spain, France, Holland and Germany, the only ones that want to remain in the EU are the ones in Germany! Even my leftie Spanish friends want out.

The most passionate leavers are the Italians, they are in Rome, Milan, Verona and Naples.

I hope they all getr their wish.

Indeed.

His parents fled Nazi tyranny to live in a free country with a democracy. Being British himself, he can vote Tory or vote Labour. He was free to vote Leave or vote Remain. He's free to choose whatever way he wants. That's how a democracy works.

Unless the vote doesn't go your way of course...

I said I didn’t think it was ‚broken‘ (and I appreciate that many did). You‘re talking about sovereignty stuff. Most other countries aren’t so fussed about that and recognise the benefits of the EU much more than we do here.

But the main point I was making is that while the electorate here could be conned into thinking that leaving the UK could be achieved at no cost, any ‚remain‘ campaign in another country can now point to the UK as to, at the very least, the enormous hassle and national upheaval involved.

But let’s see, we don’t need to agree on it, we can wait to see what happens.

Ian you've no idea why individuals voted for Brexit and I don't remember anyone credible saying Brexit would be at no cost. To say ppl were conned is totally wrong. I could equally say Remainers were conned that the UK had a significant influence in the EU when we were consistency outvoted by the German/France political coalitions seeking to maintain their advantageous positions at the head of the undemocratic gravy train.

You don‘t have to agree that people were conned (and maybe you don’t think Trump is currently conning people out of millions of $ in the US either?).

But maybe you can agree that whereas in the UK the Brexiteers could say whatever the f*ck they liked about how Brexit would be, other European countries will have the example of the UK to show them exactly what leaving the EU involves.

We are never going back in, not least because the rancour involved would never be worth it, but for same reason no one else will leave either.

What’s Trump got to do with it? Why this USA obsessed shite all the time, other governments all over the world are shitting miserably on their populations, but certain elements of our population always feel they have to have their noses embedded in American dirtboxes.

I‘m trying to work out whether you ever believe that politicians can ‚con‘ the public?

What’s happening in the US is hugely important for anyone who believes in democratic institutions because (a) of the long democratic tradition in the US (b) the fact if the US became an authoritarian state, the UK and Europe would start to feel very isolated in terms of their democracies and (c) what is happening in the US is unprecedented and a real example of how far a ‚con‘ can take a democratic country.

But, I note that you latched onto to my US aside, and didn’t dispute my main point about other European ‚exit‘ campaigns finding it harder to say whatever they like about Leaving, as happened here.

The graph you’ve posted is highly misleading and is misrepresenting Kings Fund data. If you go on the Kings Fund site the actual real terms increase from 19/20 to 20/21 is £1bn. For 21/22 excluding covid specific expenditure and non health specific spend the actual increase of day to day spending is £6.6bn. The other £5bn will go on capital projects, staffing etc. A great deal of that isn’t really new money but rather recycled from other projects. You’re also confusing the DHSC budget and what most people would assume is an increase in NHS spend. The two are very different. Health and Social Care funds so many services outside of the NHS like care homes for example.

Sorry but your very much mistaken --- The WHOLE of --- BRITAIN WILL BE GREAT AGAIN .
OUR HISTORY MARKS US DOWN as being a Unique nation which we will be at the front leading the world to a better existence ----- For all peoples and countries on our planet. IT IS SO MUCH ABOUT YOUR ATTITUDES AND THOUGHTS - JUST THINK !! IT IS SO MUCH EASIER TO THINK NEGATIVE Thoughts -- Than having your cup half full to overflowing !

Negativity verses POSITIVITY................. Many said IT will take many tens of years to sign TRADE DEALS -- We have signed 61 trade deals so far worth 867 BILLION POUNDS. UK was First with COVID 19 Vaccine -- Able to finish V.A.T on essential tampons for our ladies ---- We are now able to take more sensible decisions -- WITHOUT THE EU TELLING US what we can or can't do - without their permission!

This will take many years to see REAL BENEFITS, but can;t you see that some are filtering though already.- we are bound to have LOADS of bumps with obstacles and difficulties to overcome. Could you ALL now LOOK to join a more POSITIVE OUTLOOK - PLEASE! A very happy new year to everyone.
