I thought we could have a little distraction from le foot. What are everyone's favourite albums? Mine, in no particular order:

Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American. My favourite album by my favourite band. The perfect harmony of young adulthood, inspiring teen melancholy and dreams for the future in equal measure.

Blink 182 - Blink 182. Loses points for being a self-titled album, but the replayability still being as strong as ever 20 years post-release is something I don't often find with music. Some real bangers in here.

Paramore - Riot. Pop punk at its finest.

Fleetwood Mac - Rumours. I'm not generally a fan of music before 'my era', but Fleetwood Mac are an exception. This album is simply a masterpiece. (Honourable mentions too for Mirage and their self-titled album)

Re Shun's OP I've spent years lurking on here and it's funny how you form little mental impressions of everyone's lives and personalities when not knowing who they are - I've always assumed Shun was a legend based on the old Lauren Mayberry profile pic!

I'm mid 40s and my favourites in my yoof were The Clash, The Specials, Public Enemy - Nation of Millions, De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising, Pixies - Doolittle, Rancid - Out Come the Wolves, Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am.

But this pandemic has really opened my eyes to female fronted pop, I reckon women are writing the best music these days. Chvrches, Self Esteem and new Taylor Swift are my faves the last few years and a nightly dose of Beyonce's 2011 Glastonbury headlining set got me through the first lockdown!

Some marvellous female fronted and female only albums out there.

Laura Nyro - Eli & the thirteenth Confession

The Pretenders - Pretenders

Sade - Diamond Life

The Au Pairs - Playing with a different sex

Cocteau Twins - The Pink Opaque and Blue Bell Knoll

Wolf Alice - Visions of a life

Among many others

To add a few of my favourite female offerings:

No Deal - Melanie De Biasio

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill - Lauren Hill

Blue - Joni Mitchell

Baduizm - Erykah Badu

Tapestry - Carole King

Aventine - Agnes Obel

You’re too kind! I really like Chvrches and considered including them in my list. Also a huge fan of Taylor Swift who is, if you can get past her poppy stuff like Shake it Off, an incredible songwriter.

Difficult question as there are hundreds in my vinyl collection but here's a few that I couldn't be without.

The Eagles .....Long road out of Eden
Counting Crows ..... Somewhere under Wonderland
Genesis......Trick Of The Tail
Green Day.....Dookie
10cc.....Deceptive Bends
Foy Vance.....The Wild Swan
Fish.....Weltschmerz
Gerry Cinnamon.....The Bonny
The Lathums.....How Beautiful Life Can Be
Richard Ashcroft..... Acoustic Hymns.

Would have included Holly Humberstones new one but it's an EP not an album....

Poll: Hill in or out? 2nd referendum.....

I preferred Wolf Alice's first album, although aware I'm in the minority there. A few more brilliant female fronted albums:

Goat Girl - Goat Girl
The Beths - Future Me Hates Me
Frankie Cosmos - Close It Quietly
Snail Mail - Lush
Courtney Barnett - Tell Me How You Really Feel
Anna St. Louis - If Only There Was A River

Tangled up in blue.

not an album but anyone who likes all female rock bands should listen to some from Japan, especially live on You tube. My favourite are Lovebites ( they sing in English), but there are dozens of others ( Aldious, Band Maid, Stereopony etc)

Always liked Joy Division but more the singles then I did the Tims Listening Party for both albums in lockdown, they're now much higher in my appreciation list.

Lots of mine already mentioned by Chaff and Fitz.
A topical one for this week. Only heard about them last November but not been this excited about a new band since Arctic Monkeys. I've been lucky enough to see them play twice this last week at a record shop in Preston and in Manchester last Tuesday night. The debut album The Overload gets better with every listen and they are brilliant live.
