Jesus that was dull, it was on par with watching Saints but with a marginally better defence. All that attacking talent and its rubbish tippy tappy football

Ukraine also got a point away from home, it was played in Poland.

It was so dull to watch.

Yes it was.
Thanks for confirming that.
Lovely to see 40000 Ukrainians booing us when apparently they are at war.

Get back at it tomorrow.

Even though they're only in their early 30s, Henderson and Maguire are both past their sell by date. They had a few decent games for England but it's time to say goodbye.

Goodbye!

Ukrainians are enduring a nightmare right now. Cut them some slack. Their country is being bombed to smithereens. If they choose to boo their opponents in a football match, so what? Our fans booed the Italian anthem and attacked their fans at Wembley over Brexit FFS.

PS I was only watching on TV but it appeared to me that the Ukrainian fans were remarkably tolerant of the England fans in their midst. They weren't getting attacked like the Italian fans at Wembley were.

‘Attacked Italian fans’ first I’ve heard of that.
Don’t forget it’s only England fans that EVER cause trouble.

Both Southampton and England have played 5 games each in their leagues.
Ones conceded 12 goals, ones conceded 2.

Dull England…

I watched England's dire performance against Ukraine & later watched the England Rugby team (we played with a man short for 77mins) smash the Argies.
What difference between the passion & desire to win shown by the Rugby boys.
Great to watch unlike the boring slow, non creative performance of the Football team.

As before after England fail to win, or even win by a big margin, it’s ‘dull England’.
We are unbeaten sitting at the top of the table. 9 points clear of 3rd place. With a GD of +14.

The job is to qualify from the group, which we will do with ease.
Job done and on to the tournament.

It’s the result that matters, always, not the performance.
I’d take a dull 1-0 win every time compared to any loss.

Well done to England rugby team, a great result and an excellent watch.
I hope they win it.

The performance does matter. Not because they have to entertain us, but because they need to improve their attacking football.

England have some of the same issues as Saints (e.g. not enough movement so everything is static and too slow) but they do have quality players who can break down a defence. The problem is, Southgate doesn't know how to use them. Playing Maddison out of position isn't going to work. They need to find a better shape that can make use of their talents. That's the kind of thing they should be developing in these qualifying games.

The only thing that matters is the result.
You don’t get 3 points for winning the possession or how many shots you have on target.

If you score more goals than the opponent you win the game.

As I have said before, we are top of the group, unbeaten with a +14 goal difference.
9 points clear of Italy in third. The top two teams in the group qualify.

Exactly this

He has no clue how to oaky his attacking front line or who is the best
Kane will always start
He picks flavours of the month to keep ppl happy so there is no consistency to his eleven

Kane was the problem, drifting back into midfield to "get involved" leaving only one striker and getting in the midfield's way

And the White Knight is talking backwards And the Red Queen's off with her head

I would expect England to do well in this group.

Granted, Italy are currently 7th in FIFA rankings, but Ukraine are 27, North Macedonia 68 and Malta 171.

The challenge is getting results against top opposition, and when it matters.

Totally agree. If England can only play slow dull games against minnows how will they improve enough to beat ranked teams in the later competition stages.
Southgate is a dull person with no vision that’s why he sticks to favourites from the top six mostly.

What more do I want? I want us to win a tournament. That will never happen if we are happy with playing mediocre football and getting draws against mediocre teams like Ukraine.

If we don't use the qualifying stages to develop, we will always fail when it matters.
