| reffing VAR 22:25 - Nov 28 with 2360 views | saint22 | Good to see its not just the PL that suffers shocking decision against the toon (as much as I can't stand them) Ref clearly had his orders to ensure PSg made it through the group | | | | |
| reffing VAR on 22:43 - Nov 28 with 2328 views | InTimeAddedOn | Agreed Saint 22 - however, even VAR will have its work cut out for round 6 of the group games as PSG travel to Dortmund and the barcodes are at home to bottom of the table AC Milan who are on the same points total. PSG lose Newcastle win and it will be the barcodes who go through, it will be interesting to see what the standard of reffing and VARing is in Dortmund and Newcastle. Could also depend on how strong a team Dortmund put out having already guaranteed progression to the next stage. [Post edited 28 Nov 2023 23:31]

| reffing VAR on 11:46 - Nov 29 with 2210 views | SFC_Referee | Well as I’ve said out many times before, the prem’s officiating quality is just the same as the rest of the major leagues, due to many factors | |

| reffing VAR on 16:44 - Nov 29 with 2140 views | Berber | Prior to VAR (and some extent action replays) we all had to cur referees a lot of slack, as instant decisions have to be made, and there is nothing to say another input will add to the decision. We all knew of course that there would be many errors, and all too often, apparent bias on decisions on similar incidents, even in the same game. What VAR has shown, is that some officials are singularly incapable of making a correct decision in pressured circumstances (ie VAR). There has always been a mechanism for dealing with perceived poor performance, but it always has taken place over a number of games, rather than dealing with the howlers we are seeing now. VAR should be helping the on pitch officials, and all too often, that is clearly not the case. Once you get anyone to question their own decision, they most often will be more amenable to an alternative one, unfortunately. | |

i see the VAR official has been suspended from his next game So does that mean he made the wrong decision? if so how's that play out?

Yes, I noticed the numpty has been stood down from the next game. I would say yes it does mean that a huge mistake has been made, one of far too many wrong decisions VAR are responsible for. As for how it plays out? There will be a be a heavy outbreak of tutting from within VAR HQ’s Ivory Towers along with a rap on the knuckles for the numpty that made the wrong decision. As for Newcastle? They get naff all that’s of any use to them, they might get an apology, but in all honesty what earthly use is that? Can they print out the apology email and take it onto the pitch with them in the next CL game, hand it to the ref, and cash it in for a dodgy penalty decision in their favour? Of course not. So, they get naff all which makes it totally unacceptable. OK, I am no great fan of the barcodes but it is the principle of it. As has been posted by others, the situation won’t resolve itself so what needs to happen is ex-players need to be in the VAR booths making these judgement calls, then things would improve. No doubt we will now get SFC Ref on with the usual LOTG diatribe, that’s just hot air, if players can pass UEFA B license and (by invitation) pass their UEFA A they can ace any exam on LOTG. At the end of the day they are not going to be asked to make anything other than calls on situations they are better qualified to call correctly as ex-pro players with the relevant experience at the required level because none of the officials are in possession of the necessary skills to have been able to play at the level they are now making key judgement calls on from a VAR booth equipped with multiple TV screens, different camera angles and even slow-mo and freeze frame. Still they can’t get it right. [Post edited 30 Nov 2023 15:21]

Just seen it on MOTD, and it certainly wasn’t a two footed challenge, and wasn’t a red, as like Sledged has already said there isn’t the most contact in there, and the force isn’t excessive, so I think VAR was correct on this one as I don’t see it as a red for SFP and it certainly wasn’t a clear and obvious error

both feet left the ground as he jumped into the challenge if thats not reckless then wtf is? Foden could have had his foot planted and that would have snapped his shin bone, and there was contact
| reffing VAR on 02:37 - Dec 12 with 1493 views | InTimeAddedOn | I see VAR has been put forward as one of the nominations for the Dick Of The Year award on C4’s light hearted Friday night show The Last Leg. This annual award usually goes to the likes of Putin or Jeremy Hunt but this year one of the show’s regular presenters, Arsenal fan Alex Brooker, has nominated VAR. The voting is currently open with the results being announced on Friday evening. I also see Gary Lineker apologised to the viewers on MOTD last Saturday for advocating the use of VAR and lobbying for its introduction as it has ruined the game. Good to see this happening, let’s just hope the voices against VAR get louder and louder until the numpties running it sort it out once and for all. | | | |
