V A R, It’s simply pathetic now. 05:08 - Jan 5 with 12380 viewssaintmark1976

Another utterly ridiculous sending off yesterday evening at Crystal Palace.

On pitch referee sees no problem at all with a tackle from a 27 year old player who has never previously been dismissed from the field of play. Michael Salisbury ( who like Darren England is a totally incompetent embarrassment ) in charge of V A R then refers on pitch official to pitch side monitor and a dismissal follows.

At the time of the incident no Crystal Palace player sees a problem and post match neither manager has a clue as why a sending off was necessary.

It’s time that the Clubs their managers and players told the authorities that they want V A R banned.

Poll: Do you now expect a top six season finish ?

Just seen it, and how people say that’s a foul is beyond me! As keepers get far too much protection as it is, and if your gonna say that’s a foul then you might as well make it non a contact sport for them! As they’re shoulder to shoulder, the keepers gone down easy and gotten absolutely nothing on the ball.

But again this incident just highlights 3 major points.
Firstly how this isn’t a clear and obvious error as like I thought it would be hearing how even the options are around it, and looking at it again, in my books it’s never a foul, and certainly far from a clear and obvious error. Yet many on here and other social media platforms who non stop complain when VAR gets involved in those decisions, are still complaining now? So do you wanna make up your mind, as one second your saying clear and obvious errors the next your saying it should be all.

Secondly, as highlighted by the split in opinions from all levels and angles of the game, having a former player in that VAR room probably wouldn’t of made a difference to this one. As I’ve been listening to talksport, sky etc… and many of the former players and pundits on there are all also split on it. So having them in there probably wouldn’t of made a difference, so for those acting like that’s the perfect solution, this just shows how it won’t change much at all.

And lastly VAR can never seem to satisfy some. As I completely understand the ruining of the tempo and in stadium experiences for fans, as I’ve certainly preferred in more in the championship this season compared to when we were in the prem for that exact reason. But still, many are acting like this is a major mistake mistake, and are having just the usual moans, whilst according to just as many VAR got it spot on. So it would be just the vice versa if VAR hadn't of gotten involved and overruled the goal, then it would’ve been the Luton manager complaining this morning and the other half saying that VAR messed up. But again no matter what it decided it was gonna get stick for this, which isn’t really that fair on the officials or VAR at all, especially seeing how this isn’t clear and obvious which most say it should be used for, yet many on here who say that are still criticising VAR for it.

The Burnley keeper's airey fairy, very weak, badly positioned and never getting anywhere near the ball, so he's tried the keepers trump card, any kind of contact and ii'll get the free kick. Serves him right.

Anywhere else on the pitch, that's never given as a foul.

He doesn't understand that well at all, remember he called out that two footed tackle (can't remember the game) to be a sending off, which he probably saw about five times?
The Ref saw it once at normal speed and could see it was one footed.

I would've thought by now that the dicckheeads on here would realise that it's the same people making the decision in Stockleigh Park as on the pitch. VAR gives them an opportunity to get it right. If they still get it wrong then it means the officials are still shiite. Its like voting Tory for the last 14 years & claiming Labour are at fault for all the shiite thats happened since 2010. W⚓️s & 🔔🔚s blame VAR

Good point. But won’t stop moaners complaining about var. The competence levels of referees is variable cos they’re human but should be improved by VAR assistance.

My point exactly. It was worse before VAR. Lampard 2010, Henry vs the paddy's, Maradona & man utd against Sunderland were all easy spots that got missed.

But it has improved, as it was said that AR’s got around 92% of offside decisions correct (which tbf in itself is a pretty impressive number), but since VAR’s been introduced 98% of VAR reviewed offsides have been correct, which makes sense seeing how for what the LOTG state the only times it’s gotten them wrong, was simply when it was rather to do with intervening with play than positioning and the very rare spurs like incidents where miscommunication or such caused the mistakes.
But the fact is that it’ll never be 100% because match officials are humans so will make mistakes, and for the intervening with play, well that’s not as factual as positioning which is why you get some disagreements around them.

But still it has improved the quality as it’s gone from 92% to 98%, and may even hit 99% one day. As VAR has made improvements for key decisions, it’s just that the moaners won’t ever except that unless it’s at 100% which won’t ever occur due to the opinions behind these decisions as well as the human elements to those using it. But thankfully as shown in this thread not everyone is as arrogant as the usual benchside lot in the Sunday leagues
