Potential threat from the weather to Saturday's match 12:05 - Nov 20 with 19685 views | MAK | 3 days away, but could there be a threat to the Oldham match on Saturday? It got to -4c last night and with 3 more sub zero nights to come, including Friday night, the grass will be getting a little solid. I addition to that a potent low pressure system swings in early on Saturday with the possibility of a couple of hours snow before it all turns very wet. A Met Office warning is out for that. Even if there's not much in the way of snow, a lot of rain falling onto frozen or semi frozen ground isn't going to drain away that fast. To add to that, there's increasing likelihood of snow overnight Thurs/Fri, and amounts will possibly be more than we had Mon/Tue. Anything that falls will hang around all Friday as the temps will just get above freezing. Fingers crossed it doesn't play out like that, but potential problems are there. Hopefully they are being dealt with. [Post edited 20 Nov 12:13]

I'd hang fire, all kids footy off near me already and it's normally quite a bit warmer than near the ground... be surprised if it's on
Potential threat from the weather to Saturday's match on 09:32 - Nov 23 with 3463 views | James1980 | Going forward in the close season next year a major overhaul of the pitch done properly along with vast improvements to the ticketing system will pay dividends. I know today's game is was buy tickets by 5pm the day before but had it been a more standard fixture, with other games being called off in the area. Some folk might have chosen a trip to Spotland for their weekend footy fix.

Potential threat from the weather to Saturday's match on 09:59 - Nov 23 with 3222 views | MAK | I'd love to see the game get the go ahead, but it's a very brave call by a ref to say all is ok.at 10am this morning. The rain is a bit patchy at the moment but that could change considerably over the next 2 or 3 hours. The problem for the ref is that, given the size of the travelling support, there needs to be a definite decision off the first inspection. I don't think there's an option for a second inspection in another hour as could often be the case.

Potential threat from the weather to Saturday's match on 10:09 - Nov 23 with 3014 views | EllDale | I like the way Oldham fans are already slaughtering the club on social media! Have they forgotten they called off a game against Dorking last year after 2.00pm with the visitors having already arrived at the ground!!

Potential threat from the weather to Saturday's match on 10:30 - Nov 23 with 2683 views | MAK | Up here in Norden, the rain has got heavier. It'll be pouring down during this inspection. Not good. It is a rough morning out there and it is a named storm for a reason. Even if the pitch was playable, you really would struggle to play a football match in this.

We'd be doing the same to be fair. Should remind them that if their fans knew how to behave it would have been a 3pm kick off and they could had another 700 seats too. Better chance of being on at 3pm.

Not sure what that achieves. Inspect at half past, it won’t tell him what it’ll be like at 12.30. What was the extra half hour for?

Coincidentally, I've just read that on Twitter. Anyway, it was Boreham Wood - twice!
To be honest, given the profiles of the Oldham fans on there and the way they generally conduct themselves, I doubt very much that they would have bothered with a home game v Dorking or whoever, let alone remember when it was postponed. [Post edited 23 Nov 15:53]

At a guess I'd say it would be to see how much difference 30min of constant rain makes, to judge how the pitch it coping.

Off. Did the ref think giving it 30 mins would see it get a bit drier?!

It's not just the pitch. Spectator safety etc has to be taken into consideration. We have had matches called off before when the pitch was playable but streets around the stadium has compacted snow on the footpaths. Anybody recall arriving at Trannie to find half the roof had blown off a stand.

Our six-fingered friends are out in force on their forum, apparently we didnt want the game on because we took the covers off yesterday as our 1st choice goalkeeper and striker are both injured.... this of course means we are tinpot and a range of other descriptions and unfit to be a football club...The Biffos are certainly living up to their nickname today....
