Colback has shown the grit we have needed 22:55 - Apr 9 with 4131 views | numptydumpty | I have not always been Jack's greatest fan, but his combative style of play and letting the opposition know he is on the pitch has been a crucial element in us gaining the vital four points we have gained against two of our relegation rivals in the last few days I understand he is 35 and sometimes he can be a potential liability ie almost guaranteed yellow card a game but his robust presence has been key. He does the not so glamorous stuff better than most Understand he maybe on a relatively high wage but would any have him here for another season. Depends on his salary demands I would say. A decision to be made...

Colback has shown the grit we have needed on 23:02 - Apr 9 with 3368 views | Logman | He's done well in the last couple of games but not been up to too much in the 39 previous games. So long as we have Field and Varane here next season one of them can do that job (arguably better than Colback) and if they do then it frees up a space for Morgan to play (or a new central midfielder) so I think we can afford to let him go. Colback has shown the grit we have needed on 23:07 - Apr 9 with 3306 views | MrSheen | I’m with the OP. He might not have looked our best player on Saturday, but he snuffed out Colwill who was their most potent, and very effective again tonight. Not saying we should definitely take him but a one year deal is worth a conversation.

Colback has shown the grit we have needed on 23:16 - Apr 9 with 3202 views | ted_hendrix | I absolutely would not sign him for another season, he's got a football brain no doubt about that but another season In the Championship would be a bridge too far IMO. Thanks Jack, goodbye, whatever. [Post edited 9 Apr 23:17]

Colback has shown the grit we have needed on 00:41 - Apr 10 with 2842 views | strikerace | Cracks me up that whenever he gets a yellow, Marti immediately tries to get him subbed out. He is a loose canon waiting to blow up.
Colback has shown the grit we have needed on 02:32 - Apr 10 with 2665 views | LazyFan | He was out for too long. He clearly knows the game and has skill, but he cannot get up and down the pitch anymore and is a yard off. Playing in front of a back four is his best position as then he does not need to run back. Quality player, but too old and too expensive.

Colback has shown the grit we have needed on 08:15 - Apr 10 with 2214 views | gazza1 | He is a big asset to the Team in most matches.....posters should watch him to see what he, actually, does better than all of the other players that we have on our books. That is why the manager MC, who many rate him highly on this Message Board, picks him whenever he is fit to play. Last night he was massive for us sitting in front of the back 4, a proper 'ginger'!!!

Yeah he had a good game last night. But you can't be having a 35 year old as your regular central midfielder in the Championship.

Colback has shown the grit we have needed on 09:39 - Apr 10 with 2051 views | nadera78 | Too old ad too expensive. Renew his contract and you're admitting you're sole aim is to eek out enough wins to finish outside the relegation zone. Every single penny we spend has to be well spent, and that means guys who can play (and contribute) every week.
Colback has shown the grit we have needed on 13:20 - Apr 10 with 1816 views | derbyhoop | He's been very good in the last 2 games. But he is 35 and, allegedly, one of our top earners. I think we have to say thank you, goodbye and good luck.

Ours has been a big problem all year but the three last night - Varane, Field and Colback - stepped up and had great games, which is the main reason we won.

Agree, you've always stuck to this mantra and last night proved the point, As poor as our front 3 were and as good as our back 4 were, our Midfield 3 really stifled Oxford in that 1st Half and we could / should have been 0-3 home & hosed, Different point Northern, but WTF are we doing with our substitutions? Field & Oxford player clash heads, there lads out warming up and straight into the action, our lads go through what seems a 5 minute Health & Safety powerpoint presentation and finally enter the field 5 minutes later, small margins, we need to cut this out, we have all week to prepare + the time the injured players getting treatment, needs sorting.

Oh mate tell me about it. How to turn a comfortable 2-0 into half an hour of panic. Even after conceding the goal we then took a quick kick off! Colback was screaming at them to slow it down so we didn't restart with 10.

I've noticed this at home games too, its just mental. Be ready, get your 5 second briefing, get out there running, you'll be warmed up in no time.

Yes and was waving his arms at the dugout just after their goal "what the fk is going on?" We really got away with that one. All fairly stoopid from a QPR perspective.

Agreed. To have so many ball players in the side is great but you also need players that will get dirty and take one for the team. All those three have taken stick for the number of bookings they’ve had yet when not there our other midfield players are over run. Field went off yesterday and in my opinion even in that short time we became too lightweight again and boy did we need that finish from Yang to settle the nerves.

Problem is whenever Cifuentes deviates away from this, in his wish to play more open attacking football, results inevitably drop off.

Colback has shown the grit we have needed on 17:20 - Apr 10 with 1312 views | Dorse | Every decent side has a player whose job description could be summed up as 'Seek-And-Destroy'. For example we've had Shaun Derry, Marc Bircham and Ian Holloway play that role for us at different times. Even players like Josh Scowen or Geoff Cameron were pretty effective at it. We haven't really had anyone do that specific job for a little while, so Ainsworth signing Colback made some sort of sense, even though I thought Jack was past his best. I don't think we should keep him on but we need someone to do what he does at his best.

Colback has shown the grit we have needed on 19:56 - Apr 10 with 1199 views | davman | Think he's been great since he came back from injury. He is a quality player at this level and just adds class; he does everything so smoothly and rarely loses the ball. Also won the in midfield to set Dembele off for the third - faultless. But, unless he will sign for peanuts, I doubt he'll bit available for too many games next season and, as we know availability is the main ability we've been missing for the last few seasons...

Agreed - though a big shout for the defence too. I think (not sure) that you were critical of the length of contract given to Colback when he came in (or was it Cook, or was it both?), so do you think he should be retained? I'm stuck between the pros and cons.
