I have not always been Jack's greatest fan, but his combative style of play and letting the opposition know he is on the pitch has been a crucial element in us gaining the vital four points we have gained against two of our relegation rivals in the last few days
I understand he is 35 and sometimes he can be a potential liability ie almost guaranteed yellow card a game but his robust presence has been key.
He does the not so glamorous stuff better than most
Understand he maybe on a relatively high wage but would any have him here for another season.
Depends on his salary demands I would say.

He's done well in the last couple of games but not been up to too much in the 39 previous games. So long as we have Field and Varane here next season one of them can do that job (arguably better than Colback) and if they do then it frees up a space for Morgan to play (or a new central midfielder) so I think we can afford to let him go. He was out for too long. He clearly knows the game and has skill, but he cannot get up and down the pitch anymore and is a yard off.
Playing in front of a back four is his best position as then he does not need to run back.

As poor as our front 3 were and as good as our back 4 were, our Midfield 3 really stifled Oxford in that 1st Half and we could / should have been 0-3 home & hosed,

Agreed. To have so many ball players in the side is great but you also need players that will get dirty and take one for the team. All those three have taken stick for the number of bookings they’ve had yet when not there our other midfield players are over run. Field went off yesterday and in my opinion even in that short time we became too lightweight again and boy did we need that finish from Yang to settle the nerves. |  |

Every decent side has a player whose job description could be summed up as 'Seek-And-Destroy'. For example we've had Shaun Derry, Marc Bircham and Ian Holloway play that role for us at different times. Even players like Josh Scowen or Geoff Cameron were pretty effective at it. We haven't really had anyone do that specific job for a little while, so Ainsworth signing Colback made some sort of sense, even though I thought Jack was past his best. I don't think we should keep him on but we need someone to do what he does at his best. |  |

Think he's been great since he came back from injury. He is a quality player at this level and just adds class; he does everything so smoothly and rarely loses the ball. Also won the in midfield to set Dembele off for the third - faultless.
But, unless he will sign for peanuts, I doubt he'll bit available for too many games next season and, as we know availability is the main ability we've been missing for the last few seasons... |  |

Agreed - though a big shout for the defence too. I think (not sure) that you were critical of the length of contract given to Colback when he came in (or was it Cook, or was it both?), so do you think he should be retained? I'm stuck between the pros and cons. |  |
