The problem with taxing assets that most Socialists are simply too stupid to grasp is that to pay tax on an asset, in the vast majority of cases the asset has to be sold. This is the case for small family farms just as much as it is for Elon Musk.
Someone who inherits a farm worth, say, £5m, even at the reduced rate will have to find £1m for the tax bill. More tax than most of the people whining about "fair share" will pay in their entire lives.
A levy on the income if the farm is eventually sold? Maybe that would be workable. That would then be a profit on the inheritance. A straight inheritance tax? Financially idiotic policy. [Post edited 27 Dec 2025 11:10]

People are too thick to.reise that a farm husband can get £2.5 million and yhe wife can get £2.5 million, so it's £5 million tax free.
