| Sam Field 16:43 - Dec 31 with 1562 views | francisbowles | Amongst my surprise and the shock/horror of others with Sam playing as a deep forward or attacking midfielder (alright no10 if you prefer), I paused and considered hasn't he played that or a very similar role before? Didn't the bloke who has never managed in London, select him in a more forward attacking role? Didn't he play in a similar role for Marti on occasions like the 4-0 Leeds win? | | | | |
| Sam Field on 16:46 - Dec 31 with 1532 views | JamesB1979 | He has played a similar role before, not sure it was that advanced. It’s definitely not his position though. I think he should be given another go in central midfield. He rarely lets us down. And when we need him, he steps up eg Oxford away. | | | |

Yes, JamesB, I'd agree with most of that but I think he'd was put up there to try and win the ball high up the pitch, win it back early when we lose possession. I thought Sam was ok up there but team wise it didn't work too well, maybe because others were losing possession on a regular basis and not pressing very well. I'm not trying to say there may not have been better options, like Paul Smyth, but trying to rationalise the selection.

I think your last two words sum it up. Next week, Dembele at centre-back.
| Sam Field on 18:55 - Dec 31 with 1115 views | Hunterhoop | He played in his conventional midfield role in the Leeds 4-0 and West Brom 2-2. The only time I recall him playing at 10 was away at Oxford in the 3-1 win. It was basically the old “Amos 10” high press role. Think Clive gave him MotM too. Sounds like yesterday he was asked to play further forward in a ball playing role there, not a high press. That is a bit mad. What I struggle to understand is that his best position is Varane’s. He spent 3 seasons there playing very well and either winning player of the year or runner up. Varane has been coasting all through this season barely playing well at all. Why not play Field instead of occasionally to light a fire under his arse? | | | |

Pretty easy varanne has to play as he’s one of our chances of a decent transfer fee, not this season though he’s regressed to the player which joined us , lazy uninterested poor ball control that was in the present market prob worth 2 million not the 6 mill which is rumoured to have been offered last season but he still must play it seems

| Sam Field on 06:32 - Jan 1 with 628 views | dmm | If Madsen is injured for today's game, I would like to see Field together with Hayden. That wouldn't be the most creative CM pairing but they'd be more reliable than Varane, who I've had enough of watching this season. | | | |

Can see that working. We all agree Madsen is the best passer in the team, who is the second best? When he was fit Harvey Vale would fit that description, but understand he had a bad night at WBA. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Isn’t field left-footed? But If Madsen is unfit, I would like to see Morgan play in his position. He has a lot of energy and passes the ball forward. Did okay there for a spell last season. But JS doesn’t seem to view him as a Midfielder at all

Field is left footed. I like Morgan but would be a little worried playing him at CM today as Norwich like to attack through the middle and I think Morgan could be vulnerable. If we're chasing the game he'd be a good sub to come on after the hour.
