Considering the only manager who got a consistent tune out of him was the one who has since gone on to have the most impressive career (Potter) I'm not sure that him playing the way that the coaches wanted is much of a defence.
Bottom line is that we only got to see a fraction of what he was capable of on a regular basis, and considering the amount of power and influence he had at the club at the time that's not good enough. If he was unhappy with how he was being asked to play then he could have had words. He clearly didn't.
By the time he eventually left he'd been here far too long. I've likened him to being the coaches son in a kids team. Captain. Played every game. Took every set piece. Even when he shouldn't have. By the end even most of the other players couldn't be bothered to see him off. |  |

Coventry getting promoted is a great achievement and has given their fans a lift but the gulf between the championship and Premier league is far greater now than when we went up ,I’d be surprised if a team with a small budget like we had in comparison to the big clubs will survive 7 seasons like we did again
Money is ruining football and promotion,while a great achievement can also prove to be a poisoned chalice and create real financial instability for clubs getting promoted
There is even a gulf opening up between championship and league one now which could cause clubs financial pain
If Spurs do get relegated then hopefully that will send a shock wave through football and the FA, EPL and EFL take note and start to put stricter rules in place to stop the big clubs causing such a problem

I purposely watched him specifically last night, and my honest opinion without prejudice is that he did nothing for Coventry that he didn't do for us. A lot of sideways and backward passing, sitting between the 2 centre halves a lot of the time. Bang average corners and free kicks. The difference is Coventry are offensively very very good, at least 3 players in double figures, defenders chipping in all season. He is unbelievably 1 footed, and will be very much exposed in the PL unfortunately, as will Bidwell and Lati. Rushworth is a PL keeper all day long.
Credit to him and Coventry though, he's a genuinely nice guy whenever myself or my boy ever bumped into him. Finicially secure and PL player again. |  | | |

I don't begrudge Matty his success, although obviously I would have preferred that he'd led a promotion campaign for us. I think a previous poster is right to say that Coventry has more lively forwards on the end of passes than we do and that makes a difference. As far as I can see, Matt was unhappy with the direction our manager was taking the team, and when he finally spoke out it was the end of the road. He left us, but I thought he behaved with class after he scored against us a few weeks ago. Whether he will be a regular in the EPL I'm not sure. | | | |
