| We're Consistently Inconsistent 07:27 - Apr 22 with 3708 views | Dr_Winston | Our Achilles Heel at the moment. We're capable of playing some very good stuff but we haven't really strung together the runs of wins that propel a team into the upper reaches of the division. Our form is all over the place, and one of the more notable things is the shift between home and away. When Matos first got here we were unbeatable at home and could barely buy a point away. Now we haven't won at home since March 7th and are unbeaten away in almost the same length of time. It's like we've course corrected a bit too much. Get to grips with that and we can make some progress IMO. | |

Yes, but we're picking up the kind of results on the road that we were finding difficult. We arguably also could/should have beaten two of those teams. That's what I mean. It's the fine margins where we're losing out at the moment. We're not a million miles away. A better bit of game management here, a less panicky finish there. A central defender who can actually pass. A lot of people seem to think that we need another overhaul but I'm not convinced that we do. [Post edited 22 Apr 7:56]

Last night being the first time the Swans have won away two games on the bounce. I’m unsure what Matos thinks because his post match interviews are one large mumble with him looking down at the ground 😂 It’s all about who we retain for next season and who we bring in. It’s in a way a nice position to be in.

I don't disagree. I think we are 1 or 2 first XI replacements from having a competitive side (a ball playing CH and a consistent and quality RW). Two challenges I see : 1) do we have the financial clout or attraction to have/maintain a bench of sufficient like-for-like quality which is really what is needed to mount a proper challenge. 2) what happens if Vipotnik does not repeat his form next season - others will have to step up with goal contributions.

yes agree and for me the big differance is the depth and (with no disrespect) the quality those 3 teams can bring on from the bench when needed, the out and out best team this season Coventry are the only team in my opinion who totally out played us over 90 mins in the last run of games, but 1 point from 9 does not look good and its the fine margins that could have made 6 from 9

Not sure that we could/should have beaten Middlesboro and Southampton. We were dominated by Middlesboro, who had 65% possession. They conceded two silly penalties when our player was going away from goal. I thought we deserved a draw against Southampton. Our away form has turned around though. We had been playing well without getting results. Now those endeavours are starting to bear fruit. Norwich on Saturday will be another step up. A win will see a few hundred extra season ticket sales for next season.

Surprised at the fact you thought we would do better with the inexperience of players brought in and the experienced players lost it seemed inevitable that it would take time to adjust, did Sheehan get sucked into tinkering too much? Matos has done well this season to breath a bit of fresh air into the team and are we better placed now to press on and keep the seen improvement into next season? Hope so. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

| We're Consistently Inconsistent on 10:16 - Apr 22 with 2806 views | felixstowe_jack | Simple reason for dip in home teams recently we have been playing teams in top six. Our better away form is also explained by playing teams below us in the table. It would be interesting to see a points breakdown with average points gained against teams above us and average points gained against teams below us. | |

If Vipotnik moves on in the summer (which he probably will as he is going to be in huge demand) his 22 league goals will be a huge void to fill.

What impressed me above all last night was the way that we approached the game, for 80 minutes at least. It would have been easy to go into the game as QPR did who insulted their fans with that performance. Yes, we made them look bad but their approach did them no favours. Sadly and as is customary, we took our foot off the pedal after the second goal and couldn’t get back to the same intensity. But a great performance overall. And one more thing, a big shout out to those in here who predicted 60+ points this season. I didn’t think we’d get there with a few games to go but some kept the faith. Hopefully it will be 63-64 though Norwich will be very tough. Charlton will depend upon how we approach it.

Surprised you think that it's harsh. I actually thought I was being positive in saying that we're not a million miles away and it's just the little things that are letting us down at the moment. I do genuinely believe that it won't take a lot to turn us into top six contenders as it stands, although obviously losing Vipotnik might set us back a bit.

For Idah to be the main man up front we would have to change the way we play because he continually drifts wide and we have nobody in the middle.
| We're Consistently Inconsistent on 14:47 - Apr 22 with 2629 views | Dr_Winston | If Vipi goes we will probably have to recreate him in the aggregate. 20+ goal per season strikers at this level are becoming rare. What we will need to do instead is get Idah scoring between 10-12 (not impossible), and the rest of the side to chip in an extra ten or so goals between them. That's the theory anyway. Widell, Walta, Eom and Inoussa have all got the ability to achieve that IMO, but we need to give them the chance. Realistically speaking however, if we're going to challenge for top six then both those figures need to increase by five or ten. Again, not impossible, but we will need improvement in a few areas. | |

I too was fooled last summer at what I thought to be a pretty good recruiting class! Sheehan couldn't figure it out and it's taken Matos a little while to get his team to this point. things to be cheery about: League leading goal scorer, 2nd in the league for assists, continued above-average goalkeeper and high up the league in clean sheets, further development of younger players (Widdell, Eom, and now Parker, maybe Stamenic & Walta could be included here). Game boss of a player in Galbraith when playing in midfield. Lots to build on during summer window.
| We're Consistently Inconsistent on 17:10 - Apr 22 with 2548 views | swan65split | We allI hope thought we would be there or there abouts this season, results and performances have been a bit chaotic . Scoring and defending has been a bit of a disaster and we can only than our VIP and VIg for saving us at both ends.I am not sure what sort of side QPR put out last night, but our performance was one happy to see, despite a few lapses again. I just looked at the table and the blood began to boil , to see what could have been! | | | |
| We're Consistently Inconsistent on 17:23 - Apr 22 with 2532 views | howenjack | There were one or two loose passes again from our central defenders last night . Against a better team they would have resulted in goals against . It's a good thing in that Kone was not on the pitch at the time . This HAS to stop . If we have any ambitions to climb the table next season this looseness in possession has to be eradicated . We can see the whole team working hard in and out of possession and it's commendable and then it all gets spoilt through some silly pass here and there . I don't think we have the footballing artisans to craft intricate passes out of defence - it's not worth the risk . | | | |

Yes , If you ask a bunch of Swans fans what their biggest bug bear is in matches this season I bet 90% would say the loose passes from central defence that puts the back line in jeopardy. We have conceded so may unnecessary goals this season . Einstein used to say "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing week after week and expecting different results"

We simply create our own problems Had we been more rudimentary I think we’d be on 70 points by now Small Margins A few teams could have been put to the sword None have apart from Sheff Weds who are on a sorry state

I’ve said it before but there are two issues I see. 1. We are not well equipped to pass it around the back but 2. When we do and it looks good we don’t actually do anything more than if we’d cleared straight from a goal kick. Do it by all means but only if we benefit by by-passing the press and drive on from midfield.

Why don’t all see this though Burgess and Cabango are very limited but good pros Burgess heads the ball well and Cabango a real warrior However they are not pretty ball playing footballers and no coach should expect them to do things outside their capabilities I remember RM playing Cabango at right back which was appalling Ben is a good lad and did so for the team At times we have however cleared without faff but other times we see totally left footed Tynon playing crap with left footed Burgess Thankfully , young Parker is already wise to this which eclipses the fella he replaced We have a real player here
