I see Nick will have you believe that for the last 3 windows they have been a success. What makes a window a success ? I look at the premiership season and would argue that only 2 (Ramsey and Fernandez) of the 25 players we signed, were up to the task . This resulted in an awful season. As a fan Making a profit on Fernadez dosent make that window for me a success , as we lost more than any profit can cover getting relegated.

Given that we now have 5 or 6 players who are arguably too good for the League we are in, it will be a case of either:-
- keeping as many of them as we can, or;
- selling some or most of them and replacing them without weakening the team overall
But ultimately it's all about improving the team in a financially responsible way. |  |

How do you judge THB for instance? Bought for the premiership but had a stinker. Shocking for half of last season, then was a giant in the 2nd half of the season. So in 2 seasons he has had half a good season at the level below he was bought for. I doubt we will get much more than we paid for him. So is he considered a successful signing? | |

We shouldn't lose money on him.
Overall, he's been a good signing for us.
He was bought when we went into the Championship first time round, and he did pretty well. We probably all too easily forget that he is still quite young.
It would be interesting to see how he would do in a moderately successful Prem team. | |

To answer the question, a good transfer window has to be judged overall, not just on one or two individual players.
So if we look at the last 3 windows as you mention.
1. January 2025- We only signed one player, Joachim Kayi Sanda for a nominal fee, a youngster who was 18, hard to judge just yet as he is still only 19.
2. Summer 2025
Joshua Quarshie, (£3.5 million) _ Only 20 when he signed, played a decent part last season 11 League starts plus 2 as sub, mostly when we were playing with a back 3, found it hard to get in the side ahead of THB, Stephens or Wood. - Verdict decent signing who will get better
Damian Downes , £7 million, didn't really suit the way we were playing under Still or Eckert, he is still young, maybe he will blossom, but hasn't yet, still only 21, but probably we will cut our losses, but stranger things have happened.
Mads Roerslev - £4 miillion Injured at the start of November and didn't play again, at 26 good mixture of experience and quality, due to the back 3 formation only really played as a wingback and not as a full back, his normal position, never let us down and could well feature more prominently next season
Caspar Jander- £10.4 million, I dont think anyone is going to argue this one.
Tom Fellows- £8 million, good steady season, at times looked unplayable only lacked a goal or two, could perhaps have been better playing on the left and cutting in, but that was Scienza's position. Definitely a good signing
Finn Azaz - £12 million- Once Eckert arrived there was no looking back, if you look at the stats when we Azaz played well so did the team , for me player of the year due to the number of goals he was involved in and scored.
Leo Scienza- £10 million, another great signing, if he goes we will more than double our money.
Elias Jelert - Loan signing, didnt quite work out due to injury and the form of other full back options .
January 2026
Daniel Peretz - Came in and brought something to the team , great loan signing hopefully now its a permanent deal can continue where he left off.
Cyle Larin- Like Peretz, many were questioning his signing when he came in, neither had the stats to back things up, but both performed, and now hopefully will continue to do so.
So there is the last 3 transfer windows, 11 signings of which I would say.
1 dud- Downes was not good, but then again it took Stewart two years to do anything and then he did well, so you can only judge any player in Downes situation when they leave , you never know he might be the hero of next season or he might be sold at a loss.
1 Youngster- Jury is still out he might break into our first team or we might sell him at a profit.
1 Loan signing in Jelert who barely played, so a low cost dud.
2 good squad players in Quarshie & Jelert who never let anyone down and who could both play a part next season
6 Excellent signings who no one can really argue were not good value for money.
So there you have it can anyone really argue that was not a good 3 transfer windows ?
Just 1 real failure in Downes, but 6 excellent players who will either be here next season or will depart for a good profit, which hopefully will be re invested.
But the only window that counts now is the current one, it is how we reinvest the money that we get in |  |

They are only good signings if they are better than what we have.

In the last 3 transfer windows we have mainly replaced under performing players with those that are overperforming.
To say Premier League, is misleading, you can only deal in the level that we are in.
Buying Fernnadez in the summer of 24 was a masterstroke, selling him for well over 2 1/2 times the fee we paid and reinvesting it in Azaz, Scienza and Jander with still a bit of change to spare was also a masterstroke | |

We should be seriously considering Lorent Tolaj at Plymouth. He ticks all the boxes, is only 24-years old, and could very well be the next Rickie Lambert I reckon.
There are rumours of 'Championship clubs' as well as Celtic being interested in him. For what it's worth, and in my opinion, he'd be top of my list to replace Ross Stewart. | |
