Latest news from up there is that one of their former players Craig Hignett suggests that Boro should give Will Salt a job so that they can show him what a proper football club is.
"I'd go and employ him and say, look, football's not like that. You do get good football clubs who can treat you properly and you'll have a good career.
"We'll show you that we're a proper football club. Don't let that experience ruin what you want to do with your life."
I would suggest that a good football club would behave with dignity, they brought the situation to the EFL's attention and got the highest sanction that they could get ie we were thrown out, then they blew it.

I'd be amazed if Boro could pay the money that Stewart is presumably looking to be earning.
It wouldn't surprise me if they went all out to sign him purely to spite us.

So im told Stewart is looking for a last big pay day, with his injury record any potential employer will not be able to get insurance on him.
Usually clubs will insure a player, so that if he suffers a long term injury his wages and treatment will be covered and if it's career ending the club will also get a lump sum pay out.
After spending the best part of 2 1/2- 3 years out with recurring injuries he is now uninsurable, Saints werent willing to offer him more than the one year extension deal that was in the contract.
That is why his agents are trying to get him out of that on the last game technicality.
He is looking for a longer term deal, but may find it hard to get it, however with a club not having to pay a transfer deal he may find someone willing to take a punt with a higher than usual signing on fee for him and a weekly wage heavily weighted on a pay as you play basis.
The general feeling I got was that the club have weighed up the risks and did not want to go longer than a year for a player who will turn 30 next month and who we would be saddled with if we were to get promotion.
They feel that they can find someone better given all the options and issues | |

But I thought I had read last week (possibly from Alfie House or Adam Blackmore, I forget who) that we had actually offered him a 2-year deal, but it was on a reduced weekly wage, hence Stewart turned it down (?). | |
